Hi guys..i think I have hit tolerance in my tapering from ativan...I,m at one and a half mg..when i take the pills 3 times a day I feel no relief at all..is like I'm not taking anything. I'm thinking about jumping and stop taking the poison any longer. My husband wants me to continue the taper, cutting every 3 weeks, this way I'll be done by summer. Don't know what to do. Any advice????

Thanks in advance!!!!!

Hey, I hit tolerance with ativan last year. What are your symptoms right now?

I'm not suggesting anything b/c it's not permitted here. But I stabilized at a comfortable working dose for a couple weeks then made cuts.

Good luck!

I also feel no relief from taking any of my 4 daily doses.  My plan is to continue tapering.  As much as I would like to quit taking clonazepam, I think the dose I'm currently at (.075 mg) is too high of a dose to jump from.  After my first taper attempt I jumped from 0.125 mg and that was still too high as the withdrawal I experienced was unbearable and I ended up reinstating.

How long were you on ativan before you started tapering?  How large are the cuts you've been making?  What are your symptoms?

Oh no, Belisima! Please don't jump at that dose.  1.5 mg Ativan equals 15 Valium.  I don't feel anything either and haven't for my whole taper. But when I don't take my dose, then I feel terrible.  I predict you would feel terrible stopping at this relatively high dose.

Jumping right now will be hard on your CNS. Just keep up your slow and steady taper until the end.

I wouldnt jump off like that either. I cut every week... but just kept going down down down til about .0125mg or something ridiculously small. Whether it was mind over matter at that such a small dose near the end... it didn't matter, i felt comfy doing it that way. And it was all good. I weened off in about 1 month and a week or so?

Good luck to ya. Would still be interested in hearing your tolerance w/d symptoms.

Hi guys..my sx are plugged ears (yesterday went to see ENT, he coulnd't fine anything wrong and agree with me it was w/ds) also I cry a lot, have tinnutus, every surgery I had hurts, can't sit still, fears, wake up in the mornings screaming b/c of bad dreams, tigth band around head and so on.  I have been on Ativan 9 months, never more than one and a half mg. Hubby is helping with taper. Two and a half years ago I taper from Xanax. Went on Ativan b/c of some women issues. Now i want off of all this junk.

Hi Belle:

It's good to hear that your husband is supporting and helping you with your taper.

Do you have a doctor that is helping you as well?

In case you haven't already read through the Ashton Manual, here's a link to it. http://www.benzo.org.uk/manual/

The recommended rate of taper is 5% to 10% approximately every 10 days to 2 weeks.

There are several different taper methods you can look into and decide which is right for you.  You can do your taper off ativan by dry cutting, titration, or compounded ativan either liquid or capsules, or you can do a substitution taper with valium.

Slow and steady wins the race when it comes to benzo withdrawal.

Take care.

Hi Bellisima.  Glad yor husband is supporting you through this, I am supporting my hubby.  As difficult as the tolerance wds are, you need to listen to your hubby.  The dose you are taking is too high to c/t.  Please, try to continue your taper.  As another bbs recommend, if you haven,t read the Ashton Manuel, refer to it.  Tapering that is recommend is what mmgc stated, 5 - 10% every 10 - 14 days. Thanks all for your advice..I showed my hubby your replys and he was very happy to read them. I will continue the taper..the hubby wants me to do .25 every 3 weeks. he hates to see me suffer, we are not young people anymore.

Today i had the shakes and terror real bad, the tinnutus also scared me a lot. God I wish this was over!

I wanted to let you know that if you're having problems coping with your cuts of .25 mg every 3 weeks you may wish to consider titration as it would allow you to make smaller cuts.  Just wanted to let you know that there are options and things you can try if you feel you need to take it a bit slower.

Don't understand titration..it seems complicated. Saw a video of it some where..but if that's what I need to do, Ill give it a try, in the meantime Ill continue with the dry cuts..actually the hubby makes the cuts for me, I surrender the medication to him. For the past couple of nites i have been taking .25 of elavil at nite for sleep..you guys think maybe that aggravated my sxs? I wont be taking any tonite.

I don't know if the medication you're taking for sleep is aggravating your symptoms.  Easiest way to find out is if you won't take any tonight and notice a difference in your symptoms.  Everyone is different in how they tolerate other medications, supplements, foods, etc. during tapering and withdrawal.  The only thing I can suggest is listen to your body.

Take care.
