ovaries sore

For the past 2 weeks my ovaries have been tender and a little achy. (mostly on the left side) There is no pain just an achy, tender feeling. Never felt this before. :( Ladies, has this happened to you during benzo withdrawal? Is it stress related?

Hormones seem to be greatly affected during benzo w/d.  Some women will miss periods and the s/x can often rev up prior to, during or after menstruation.  Since being in tolerance withdrawal from Clonazepam, I have had 4 ruptured ovarian cysts and continue to have issues every month with cysts.  I don't know if it's related to the benzos, but a few women on this forum have had issues w/ cysts only since being on benzos.  Cysts are normally harmless and my doctor said most women have them without even knowing.  IF they rupture, the pain can be intense (the first time I ended up in the ER...but all they could do was prescribe painkillers which I didn't want, so I went home and just got through the pain for a day or two).

I am off to an ultrasound this afternoon to check my ovaries.  The doctor wants to take a look again to see how things are.  You could be experiencing pain from a cyst OR just painful ovulation - are you anywhere near ovulation?  Our systems are so "hyper aware" during w/d that I think we feel things we didn't used to feel prior to benzos.  My doctor said that as women get into their 30's (I'm not sure of your age), women often find ovulation more painful then it was in their teens or 20's.  My doctor wanted to prescribe NSAID's for it, but I didn't want to risk taking more medication, so I just deal with it on my own (med free).  A heating pad can help, or gently massaging the area.

You can always make an appointment w/ your doctor to rule out any issues - that's why I went.  It gave me a peace of mind to go and get checked out.

Whether it's our sensitive system or the stress caused by withdrawal, I think it seems to be very normal for many women to experience issues w/ their period and/or ovulation.

All the best and take care,

Schatje

It seems just about any symptom is possible during benzo withdrawal and stress can also cause so many things.

My period stopped for several months.  I has come back but very different from before.  The bleeding is significantly less.

It's probably a good idea to get checked out to make sure there isn't anything else wrong.

Hang in there.

Probably worth getting checked out, but almost certainly will be nothing to worry about. I've had benign ovarian cysts for a long time, which feel similar to what you describe - basically we all get cysts when we ovulate, then for most people they go away on their own. Sometimes they stick around for no good reason and they get painful and sore, especially during sex (sorry for tmi!). There are only a few cases where this is a problem - if they keep growing, in which case the drs will sometimes doing a laprascopic surgery to remove it (only if it keeps growing for a number of months, and even then it's iffy), or if they rupture (which happened to me once, and was EXCRUCIATINGLY PAINFUL, but went away after about an hour - isn't particularly dangerous as far as I know). If you've never had this type of thing before, its' extremely unlikely to be endometriosis or PCOS, much more likely to be simple hormonal cysts, which can often be controlled with stronger or different birth control. Personally I take a stronger bc and a drug called spironolactone and haven't had a problem in years! Get it checked for your peace of mind, but LOTS of people get simple cysts that either go away on their own or, if they keep recurring, are easily controlled with med tweaks.

Hi and thanks for your replies.

I'm worried because I haven't had a period in two months. Very unusual for me. Ever since benzo withdrawal I have been having bad stress. Maybe stress is causing the missed periods? The tenderness/soreness has been constant for the past 2 months. But I'm worried because my sister had ovarian cysts that ruptured and she had to get surgery to remove them. I'm seeing my gynecologist this Monday to get it checked out. Maybe skipping periods is what causes ovarian cysts?  ???
