Migraine with nausea, any suggestions?

I am in a bad wave and the pain from the migraine (day 3) has upset my stomach. I am afraid to take anything. Ibuprophen revs s'x's and tylenol may work but my liver enzymes are BELOW normal and the only info I can find on LOW liver enzymes say that it is liver dysfunction.

I took the herb 'scullcap' in VERY high doses for 2 wks as suggested by an herbalist to help with the withdrawal. It gave me some kind of psuedo-seizures and a horrible case of hives that lasted 3 wks. That is the only thing I can think of that would've damaged my liver. Tired of worrying about it, really.

No sleep last night due to pain, stayed in a dark room until now.

Our first warm, sunny day today and I have all the shades pulled and can barely move. I thought I could just bare the pain and it would pass. It's not passing. Any suggestions? Maybe I should just take the tylenol?

I'm sorry you're in so much pain.

I'm too scared to take any pain medication but that's due to my fear of meds in general.  Hopefully some other members who have experience with pain meds during withdrawal will give you some advice.

There are some herbal teas that may help with the upset stomach such as ginger, fennel, peppermint.

Hang in there.

For OTC, if you can tolerate Excedrin Migraine, that is what my neuro recommends. I can't take it b/c it contains caffeine, which makes me too anxious, but caffeine actually does help a migraine attack.

Alleve or Naproxen is also very effective against migraine.

An ice pack on your occipital area will also be helpful.

Hugs. I'm a chronic migraineur. I know this is really hard.

Hi Alexa,

Sorry you're in so much discomfort.

My daughter suffers with migraine headaches and has recently been using a product called Migrastick which you apply to the forehead. Thought this might be useful for you as I know what it's like not wanting to introduce more meds to the CNS. My daughter bought hers from Amazon website but has since been advised that you can buy it from some health shops. My daughter now carries this with her at all times, she says it is a lifesaver.

Hope that helps.

Debbie  :)

That reminds me, I forgot to mention something else my neuro recommended (non-drug) called Tiger Balm. It is very soothing as well.

hi alexa, so sorry you have a migraine. i have only had two in my life and threw up both times. i have a low grade headache every day in w/d. i don't know how it is where you live but there is a lot of pollen in the air now. i would try a hot bath/shower and breath in some steam through your nose. maybe even some aromatic menthol (vicks/tiger balm) and see if that helps. if you can stand it the hot water will relax you and open your sinus all around your head. hope you feel better.rstud

Thank you all for your replies. I will look into each suggestion as I suffer these 1-2 times a month. These were really great suggestions. About 4 hours after I posted I could feel the migraine lifting and within 1 hour it was GONE and I got a pretty good partial window!
