Ativan to Valium

Hi everyone -

 

I have been on 3mg ativan for 8 years. If I totally switch over to valium would I still get withdrawals?

Everyone is different so it is hard to say whether you will suffer from withdrawals or not. The rationale for switching is that valium is a longer acting benzo so it takes longer to leave your system thereby making it a little kinder on your body during withdrawal.  Unfortunately there are no guarantees in this process, but there are those who do withdrawal with little or no problems.

Some have troubles switching from short acting benzos to longer ones, which is probably because longer acting benzos take a little more time to build up in the body.
