Question about tapper

Recommended Posts

So I know this may be a little silly to ask at this point, but I have been off clonazepam for two months.  I am still struggling with the withdrawals and wonder if I tapered right.  I just want some feedback on others in my position.  I was prescribed .5mg per day, but started out only taking .125mg for a week, then moved up to .25mg for for a few weeks, then up to .75mg for another two weeks, then started to back down to .25mg for a few weeks, then down to .125mg for about a week then stopped.  I am still having mind fog and trouble concentrating, and short term memory problems. Like I said I have been off for two months...any feedback?  In total I was on it for 2 1/2 months....

Hi sumel:

Everyone is different in the rate of taper they can tolerate.  I depends on many factors including how long a person has been taking the benzo and the daily dosage that was taken.

You were only on clonazepam for a short period of time and on a fairly low dose which can in some cases make a taper a bit easier and can possibly allow you to make larger cuts.

The recommended rate of taper is 5% to 10% approximately every 2 weeks.

What are your withdrawal symptoms?

Hang in there.

My withdrawal symptoms are short term memory problems, brain fog, problems concentrating, disassociation, obsessive thoughts, depression, feelings like you just won't make it.  I read that once you get passed two weeks of being off that reinstating is not a good idea.  My thoughts now are am I stuck with permanent damage then? Problem is I have low blood sugar too which has similar feelings of brain fog and inability to think straight.  I'm just worried because they say confusion is a sign you tapered too quickly and I'm like is this confusion?  Just kind of scared its too late to do anything at this point.

Hi, smuel.

First, you aren't stuck with any symptoms so put that out of your mind.  Also, even those who do a really slow taper can experience withdrawal symptoms for weeks or months after quitting.  I sometimes have a problem with blood sugar, too, (I am diabetic) but test it to find out if what I'm experiencing is something I can fix by eating.  Do you know your blood sugar is low because you test it?  If so, it is something you can fix fairly simply and then you'll know for sure what is what.  Hang in there.  ;)

Thanks beeper:) Yes I do check my blood sugar, for the most part that is usually what it is, its just confusing! Plus I have some food sensitivities...makes this process a lot more difficult.
