I had been taking 2 mg of klonopin per day for 6 months and quit cold turkey 13 days ago... I still can't sleep and blurred vision comes and goes... how long can I expect these spells of blurred vision to last? I thought it would pass within the first week... but tomorrow marks 14 days....any advice?

Hi blurredvision, welcome to BenzoBuddies

It's very risky to cold turkey these drugs especially from a relatively high dose of 2 mg klonopin. Does your doctor know how you stopped taking it? You may want ask about reinstating if you're having hard time and wean off slowly. The symptoms can last quite awhile.. not to scare you but just being honest.

Feel free to search the forum, you'll find a lot of support here.

Hi, blurredvision, and welcome to BenzoBuddies.

I second what Starbird said but also know that many people quit benzos without every knowing they were in danger and recover nicely.  I would still check with your doctor or pharmacist to find out if the danger of seizure has passed.

I got blurry vision while tapering lorazepam and it lasted for months.  Even came back for a week or so after I had finished the taper.  I kept cleaning my glasses thinking there were smudges on them and got new glasses because the old ones had some fine scratches.  Nothing but time helped, sad to say.  :(

If I take a TINY does to maintain... will that kick the addiction back in full force? I want to ease into this, but afraid taking a tiny does after all this will set me back and make recovery take even longer. I REALLY appreciate your advice.

Thanks!

You should really direct your questions to you doctor, but just to let you know that many have reinstated and weaned slowly off without a problem.

Thanks... I just wonder if it would be a step back to "reinstate" after having it physically out of my body for so long ...or at least it seems like a long time to me. I understand you are not a doctor, but probably closer to knowing how I am feeling than any doctor... I am going to go for a jog and think about this. I just feel like my "window" will open tomorrow, then tomorrow ad infinitum. Tough decision in this state of mind. Maybe I'll take just .25 mg .... tough call. Unfortunately, I don't have a supervising MD where I am at the moment, nor will I engage one at this point. I just can't afford it. Thanks again for your words.

I will state to a certainty that the people on this board know more about benzo w/d than the vast majority of doctors. Some of us on this board are doctors and still got surprised.

A couple of points you should be aware of. Benzo w/d is generally measured in months, not weeks. Cold turkey does not speed up the process of repopulating/reconforming GABA receptors. Since you are so early in tour c/t ( although it probably doesn't feel that way ), reinstatement with a slow discontinuation plan may save you alot of suffering. I must say though that I am impressed that you are in any condition to exercise.

Thanks. I just got back from a 36 minute run... it was trippy in that I felt a sort of disconnectedness and spacey... I am in great healthy...but running with limbs that seem to disapear or go numb is just a little freaky... I do feel better... that runner's high feels great... a good sweat, too (it is 80 degrees herenow in South Texas).

Thanks again for your words. This forum has been a hand of sanity in this mental mess I'm in. Im just praying it gets better soon.
