I can't seem to get myself to cry - product of withdrawal?

Before I ever took the Lorazepam, I could cry at anything easily even if I wanted to let a little stress out. Now, that I have gone cold turkey two months ago, i can get the emotions, but I can't cry- tears to fall, etc. Is that part of what is going on in the brain and the repair?

Hi Brooke-I am also experiencing this.  I feel depressed, but I rarely cry, and when I do it's just for a minute.  Jenn

Hi Brooke.  Yes me too.  My emotions were/are all over the place.  Benzos flatten our affect and ability to feel.  Often I had inappropriate responses to things.  LIke I could cry if heard something good or I couldn't laugh at something hilarious.  Most often I just didn't have any reactions at all to anything.  Nada.  I sat and stared a lot, my face totally expressionless regardless of what was going on around me.  I am 6 weeks off and my emotions are beginning to level out and be more appropriate.  I watched the movie "Groundhog Day" the other day and laughed hard all the way through.  Progress!  You will get there too.

Thank you - I thought I killed off everything in my brain! How is your sleep? Has that returned? I am only 8+ weeks in and I only get 3-4 hours a sleep at night.

Dear Brooke,

My sleep is really good now, at least 8 hours straight.  For several months it was very interrupted and I had a lot of weird, sometimes bad, dreams.  I am really thankful that good sleep has returned.  I remember for the first month or two I only slept for 4-6 hours, and it was restless sleep.

So, it took 7 months for you? I am stuck for the past couple of weeks at 3-4 hours - did you have periods of only a certain amount of hours of sleep and then got better - still not dreaming, wake up blank and shaking every morning.

I have taken 1 mg lorazepam at night for 7 years.  I am now in the process of tapering.  I hadn't cried since 2008 and when I began the taper I noticed some things I watched on tv made me tear up!!  This is exciting as I see some light!  It is unbelievable what this drug takes from you.

Hi Brooke-I was on Klonopin for a very long time, over 6 years.  I did have all the symptoms you are experiencing, and I still wake up with anxiety.  Please don't feel these symptoms will drag on for you as long as they have for me.  I also c/t from 1 mg, but had been on as high as 3 mg during those years.  At the very beginning I only slept about 2 hours a night, if that.  In fact, I went 3 nights with zero sleep at first.  It did get better gradually.  Just hang in there.  There is no reason to think it will take you as long as it has taken me.  My brain has years of benzos to heal from.  Hugs,  Jenn
