Hi Everyone

My Psychiatrist prescribed 05mg Xanor twice day about 5 months ago which really zoned me out. Subsequently he changed it to Urbanol 10mg which seems to be better. I however want to get off this medication soon as possible as I feel toxic and dont like the way it makes me feel. I am on other medication Zyprexa 5mg at night, Xanor 150mg one in the morning, lithium 400 in the evening and erdenel twice a day. I have never been on medication before, this all happened after I had a traumatic experience while I was travelling and didnt sleep for about  a month. It seems like Im on too much medication. The Dr says I am suffering from depression and high anxiety. I want to get off all these meds and get back to myself, but am terrified ofthe side effects I have read about. Can anybody please advise

Hi joocesaman,

Welcome to BenzoBuddies.

We have many members who, like you are on several different medications. It's generally suggested you taper one at a time. I'm sure out members who have experience with this will chime in very soon.

Hope

Hello joosesaman,

I am so sorry to hear about your traumatic experience that led to being medicated.  Welcome to Benzo Buddies, this is a forum filled with kind and caring people here to support others in their quest to get off benzos.

You are on a lot of meds that I cannot comment on due to lack of knowledge.  There are others that can help you though.  It would be best to have your doctor on board with this, is it possible your pdoc will help you out?

The withdrawal process can take time, but is for sure doable.

Please ask questions at any time.

Hi Joocesaman

:yippee:

Welcome to BB.  Lithium as well as Zyprexa are psychotic medications and are usually prescribed for bi-polar patients.  I was on Urbanol when I was in the psych hospital and it was feared that I was going to have a seizure.  I know many epileptics are prescribed it and it is sometimes prescribed as an anxiolytic and mood stabiliser.

Hi Everyone

Thanks for the quick response and kind words, much appreciated. I have another question! Does anybody know about the website, the road home where they use a range of supplements to assist with withrdrwaing with Pschyc drugs?? According to them you can taper much quicker, but I dont know if this all bogus??

I've heard a little about The Road Home, joocesaman.

Tapering off benzos is a little like dieting...many claim to have a magic pill or formula to get you to your target but the truth is, there is no magic way to get off benzos. It takes time and effort to see results. And generally, the faster you taper the worse your symptoms will be during and after your taper.

I'd be very careful about places like The Road Home. Although it's ultimately up to you but the truth is, a slow, sensible taper is the safest and best way to go for most. I understand the sense of urgency regarding getting off these meds but a rapid taper isn't always the answer.

Regarding supplements, some members swear by them, others steer clear of them because they can rev up symptoms. There is no one answer for everyone.
