[mo...]
Just thought I would share this good news. I searched for benzo wise doctors in my area, and found a guy who is a Pharmacologist that specializes in benzo recovery. I took a chance and emailed him and he actually responded. He said he could see me with a referral from my GP. Now THAT should be an interesting conversation! LOL!!! Altho I feel like I am well down the road to recovery, I would still like to talk to this guy. It could take a while to get an apt. but I think it could be interesting to discuss my sx with someone who isn't going to roll their eyes and try to discredit everything I know to be true. I'll keep you posted.

I really don't think most doctors know the full effects this drug with have on people when they want to get off the drug. I never thought I would suffer this must when I decided to quit this drug. I know one thing I will never take a drug again without doing a lot of research before hand.

[Be...]
Hi I am still new to this site and trying to find my way...so when I find a good post I like to reply. I was currently on 1mg 4 x's a day...then suddenly out of nowhere I go to pick up my script 2 weeks ago today and with NO REASON my doctor dropped my qty. to 90 taken 3 x's a day??? AFTER 2 years with her and 7 years with my previous doctor that also prescribed me 120..... My pharmacist called them as he has been MY same pharmacist for 11 years and said he was checking to see if they made a mistake on my qty. they told him " the doctor can no longer prescribe over 90 to any of her patients on Xanax due to the increase in Malpractice Insurance Premiums with all controlled substances"....he just shook his head and apologized to me for MY doctor not even informing me of the changes in advance...and the dangers of anyone taking this medication as long as I have need to be tapered off... I also think a Pharmacist or at least mine is more Knowledgeable than our own Md's..... I want to begin a taper from them as I already feel I have a Tolerance to them.... If anyone has any advice for me please give it to me I would rather be told brutal honesty than just sugar coat it....after all I've been thru with my life and pills I want to be the person I was before I became so dependent on them any longer than I already have!!!!! Thanks for reading....look forward to hearing from anyone!! Kim

Thanks for reading....look forward to hearing from anyone!! Kim Kim, I have 10 weeks clean from Temazepam after 7 years. I was taking 60 mg so I was considered a heavy user. I also built up a tolerance to the drug. I did a CT/WD and it has been hell. I do not recommend this method. The taper method seems much less dangerous and less physical pain from what I have read from others. Kim, I am not going to sugar coat it. But remember why it is you want to quit and keep focused on that. If you need a friend I am there for you.
[mo...]
It's true that pharmacists tend to know more than doctors. In fact it was my pharmacist who told me that all the rebound issues I was having while still on Ativan and Zop were actually caused by the drugs themselves. She was the one who warned me about tapering off and the length of time it could take to feel well again. This fellow I am going to see is a clinical pharmacologist, so once again, someone who studies the long term effects of drug therapy.
[Be...]
Thank you for the Reply Redwritinghood!! and I need all the friends I can as I know this will be hard for me Even though I want it so badly....when you're on a medication that you FEEL saved you from the Anxiety Attacks & Panic Attacks that wouldn't go away...How I was so uncapable of even taking care of my THEN 3 year old just getting him to his little pre school was pure hell....praying to god "please help me DRIVE my car to get my little man to school safely. Please don't let any of the moms ask me a question as I am sweating so bad what will they think of me or my son" ?? Grocery shopping...not possible...doctors shoving one after another script for antidepressants....then I found this wonderful doctor and I THOUGHT "GOD HEARD me and put this Psychiatrist in my life to help me and I felt Normal again". 11 years later its become the drug that is being abused just as much as opiates and the mixing of the two is deadly as we have all either KNOWN someone personally which I have that lost their lives with drugs... I do not want that legacy for my son....I have so much to live for and I have a wonderful husband who has NEVER EVER touched drugs. He resists taking anything for a headache....my son as well...he will be 16 and if he mentions a headache to me I will not even offer an Ibuprofen to him....as he is like his dad ....THANK GOD for hearing my prayers as I prayed from the time he was born to please let the addiction Gene skip him..... Again thank you for your advice and I will be leaning on the ones who are willing to lend advice listen to me when I am scared..... god bless, Kim

[mo...]
Rose28, I'm in beautiful B.C. Did you dodge the tornado? And yes, Northofhere, we are very blessed to have doctors and specialists covered. But believe me, it's not without its flaws. I still don't know how long I'll have to wait to see this doctor. That's the trouble, you could be cured or dead by the time you get to a specialist. But that's a whole other topic for another forum.

[GH...]
A benzo wise doctor? Sounds like an oxymoron to me. Seriously, keep us informed. Even us people to your South. A few people have said that they have found benzo wise doctors on this forum. They are few and far between. With the stories I read here, I dont know how a doctor could believe wd, lol. I am going thru it, and sometimes I dont believe it. good healing, fair winds
[mo...]
Ghostship, believe me I am doubtful as well. In fact, I was thinking I should double check that he is indeed "benzo-wise" in the sense that he believes w/d exsists and secondly that he understands. Otherwise, there's no point in wasting my time. I will definitely let you know.
[Wi...]
A benzo wise doctor? Sounds like an oxymoron to me. HA!! I consider my doctor benzo wise or at least as much as I have come to expect in that she acknowledges it can take a long time to w/d. She hasn't seen me since the first month or two, and I simply call her to tell her what I need she just calls it in. I count myself extremely lucky. [GH...]
WWWI, that is over the phone doctoring. Most dr wont do that, they want the money. Then if you went, you might end up getting tested for all sorts of things. (like a lot of people here) I just stayed away from the dr. I am much healthier since i dont take pills. Bp is 110/65. I dont take bp meds anymore. Anxiety is less, still there, but less. Much less pain then when they gave my oxy-still cant figure that out......... good healing, fair winds

For what it's worth this was my second psych. My first cost me tens of $1000s of dollars over many years, put me on Ativan, put me on meds for conditions I didn't have but that cost me my gallbladder and left me with to autoimmune diseases that will be with me for the duration of my life. So I"m THRILLED to have a phone only doc. My personal decision for once I'm off this, is no more doctors unless I'm in severe pain, or inadvertantly set myself on fire. And as an added benefit as a result of no further doctor intervention, whatever causes my ulimate demise will be a surprise! Besides if I don't go to the doctor, no more diagnosis so no disease lol (denial is a wonderful place to live)

Mine hovers around 95/60 to a max. of 110/75, thereabouts when standing, and I've been told I have low blood pressure. But a healthy low. I wonder sometimes if it contributes to my dizzy spells and d/r. Do you have any issues with yours? Sounds like it's in the same ball park as me. I've been somewhat concerned by how low my BP can get and wondered if it also affects my tinnitus.
[mo...]
Just another update: He truly IS benzo wise. I've done more research on him and he is part of an outspoken and reknown group of dr's/scientists who study benzos and their TRUE impact on the human brain. I can't wait to see him!!! But first I have to get a referral from my doc, who is a doubting thomas. I'm worried about what I'll say to him, without being rude and telling him what I REALLY think. I need to be tactful. I wonder if my doc will have heard of him and his studies? Guess I'll find out. Wish me luck.
[Wi...]
Wishing you much luck!!!! As far as what to say to this doc, despite your feelings, just remember what your real goal is for now. Later you can say whatever you want. For now, just get what you need from him. Please let us know how it goes!!

I am considering myself lucky that it is only a month. My hope is that by the time I get to see him, I won't need to because I'll be all healed! Hey, I can wish, right?
