sore tongue muscles?

Recommended Posts

Hey all. About a little over a week ago, I had a flareup. Insomnia, anxiety... then noticed my throat was tense. Tense muscles... etc. Breathing felt shallow etc.

This went away! Amen! It still feels a tad tight sometimes but not in the same spot, therefor I know it was from stress, anxiety or whatnot. Sometimes there are little shooting pains in the neck muscles, and under the chin. But nothing like a week ago. Much progress. =)

Allergies have been an issue. The pollen count is very high here. My wife is miserable. When I had the tight throat, I considered allergies too b/c of drainage. I've been taking Zyrtec for a few days now. That helped a bunch.

Lastnight though while in bed, I noticed my tongue felt sore? When I folded my tongue back towards the back of my throat, that string/web under the tongue felt sore. I looked in the mirror, and thought maybe a canker sore was coming on, but there wasnt.

I was HAPPY with myself though. I DID NOT FREAK OUT. =)  Usually my thoughts and fears would just POUR IN, but they didnt. :)

This morning I woke up, and I still kind of felt that soreness when folding my tongue back. But now it seems to be gone.

Now I feel tongue soreness in the back right of my tongue.

It does NOT feel like a canker sore, a lesion, a crack. Just muscle soreness if you will.

I'm being rational and linking this all to the stress tightness that was in my throat a week ago, that is now slowly deminishing.

I think it's just muscle tightness/spasm.

I wouldnt think you could get it in your tongue. But the tongue is a muscle!

Just curious if anyone has had this.

I just googled and reasearched this.

"A sore tongue can be caused by other health issues. A deficiency in iron or vitamin B-12 can cause anemia, which can cause a sore tongue. A yeast infection in your mouth can also cause a sore tongue, as can a reaction to medication, gastroesophageal reflux and damage to the nerves in the tongue. In some cases, psychological factors, such as anxiety or depression, can cause a sore tongue."

I'm pointing to allergies -- maybe Zyrtec drying me up too much? I've noticed my mouth being a lot dryer. And STRESS/ANXIETY.

You are doing exactly what people in benzo w/d need to do: observe what's going on while still keeping a rational mind. Because although we feel like heck, our minds can actually still work pretty good.

It's amazing though. My buddy congradulated me today. I asked him if his tongue has ever been sore. Like a sore muscle. He said "Yes!" He said allergies effect his too and stress. He said his tongue also get's sore if he drinks out of a aluminum can, and thinks it causes his to swell a bit. etc.

He's my best friend, and said "Man! You have changed! I remember when you were on those pills, and you would just freak out over a symptom like this. YOU HAVE BEATEN THIS!"

And he's right. I need to be proud of myself I no longer act like a hypochondriac. =) I think my yo yo use of ativan caused me to turn into a huge hypochondriac. Now, I just brush most weird symptoms off and give it less though. =)

Anxiety has been WAY down. It's a great defeating feeling. =)
