Neck stretches that help with tinnitus and muscle tension

This seems to help me and was easier to video than describe, so I wanted to put this on youtube for all you guys. Some notes:

1 ) I don't recommend wearing a gas mask while you do this, but did so to hide my face.

2 ) Do these SLOWLY, and feel your muscles relax as you do them. If it hurts, or if you're too tense to do these, then don't. You can really mess yourself up by doing improper stretches, and I have a lot of experience with stretching to relieve trigger point pain.

3 ) Easy does it! If you have to do these more slowly or with a more limited range of motion, that's fine. If it makes you dizzy, go slower or do less. Basically, ease into it. I've been doing these more or less daily for months. Stretching can be a little uncomfortable, but if any of this causes real pain, then don't do it (or do a more limited version, whatever is clever).

4 ) I didn't see any benefit from these until I had been doing them once or twice a day for a while. Sometimes I do them in the shower or immediately after getting out, the wet warmth helps me relax.

5 ) I am not a medical doctor and I am not qualified to give medical advice to anyone. I am just posting this as something that helps me.

6 ) This is not a panacea. This has not made my tinnitus or head/neck problems go away. It's just something that I find helpful as long as I do it on a regular basis.

7 ) There is a sheet in the background because there is a shoe rack there and I don't want you to know how many shoes I have. IT'S ONLY TWO PAIRS OKAY?

8 ) Background music -- The Mountain Goats -- Never Quite Free

9 ) I get all kinds of grinding, popping and clicking when I do these, especially the rolls. I talked to a myofascial trigger point therapist about that and he didn't think it was anything to be worried about.

Hi, Spengler; did the link. Hey, you are so young!!! I am an old lady. Oh well. I already have disk problems in my neck, and do a modified version of what you show (about half of them); shouldn't do them all, I don't think. I'd have to run it by someone. But thanks for posting this! I liked the background music, too.

 

BTW, I own much more than 2 pair of shoes, I'm sad to say. I need to donate mine!  ::)  Don't send me any links for that. I already know where; just need to do it!

I used to look very young for my age, too. The good ol' days. Hey, don't get hooked on cigs!

Thanks for making this video!  I knew most of these exercises from physical therapy and yoga but it is much easier to follow your video.  It was a good reminder and a good kick in the butt for me as my neck has been "acting up".  My neck is seriously tight and weak.  Also, the comments in your post are so funny!  :laugh: 

 

I'm around your age and used to look young for my age too.  One person told me it was "creepy"!  Creepy?!  Sadly w/d is taking a toll on my once youthful appearance though.  I've seen other people post about this...there probably is a physiological explanation.  I can't believe you were carded to buy a lighter!
