more or less synthroid?????

[an...]

Recommended Posts

I am still dealing with high anxiety. My last blood test showed my tsh level is low. My Dr. didn't change my synthroid dose. Does anyone know if I need more or less synthroid. My Dr. just says I have anxiety and even though I had my thyroid removed he really doesn't;t know the importance of thyroid levels. I am weak with heavy legs but all the physical symptoms of anxiety. Can someone help? I am 23 mos off klonipin.

Have you seen an Endocrinologist about your Thyroid?  I saw one and he said my thyroid was normal (I am on Levoxyl).  He, of course, determined this through blood tests.

Hi Angel:

Do not dismiss the low thyroid result.  I would go see an endocrinologist doc ASAP and get your TSH, Free t3, and Free t4 tested again.  If one of these are out of balance, you can be symptomatic.  Low TSH = symptoms of hyperthyroidism.  (Symptoms minic benzo withdrawal too - trust me; I have been through both of these).

Even with thyroid removed, you might be on too high a dose.  You need to be on the precise dose with a happy TSH around 1+ - 2+ range.

Keep us informed as to your findings.

Best regards,

Rocko

The range of TSH is wide.

Is it a low normal reading, or below normal? Remember that TSH stands for Thyroid stimulating hormone. If it's low, it signifies that the body is sensing more than adequate thyroid hormone and doesn't need to stimulate the thyroid. If it's below the normal range, than an adjustment might be indicated. Talk to your doctor!!

My Dr. said it was slightly below normal but I don't have a thyroid removed because of cancer. That is what started me on this anxiety and depression 8 years ago. He didn't change my dose. I take .112 whatever that means. Thanks for your reply.  Angel

With a low TSH reading, you probably need less synthroid; it means you are on the side of being hyperthyroid. I take synthroid too. You would probably want to also have your T3 and T4 levels checked if your TSH is on the borderline between "low" and "normal."

Angel

My wife had her thyroid out also and based on her experience I'm with Rocko, get to a specialist ASAP.

Also purchase "The Thyroid Solution" book and read it so you will know which doc. is getting it right as even the specialists vary in their approach based on what med school/region of the USA they were educated in.  My wife and several others here at BB believed this book has the right approach.
