[Ra...]
Hi, every body. I'm from India and am running 79. I have suffered from Panic Anxiety from the age of 21. Initially, managed through Jacksonian relaxation. From 1995, I'm on meds. I take Clonazepam ( 0.5 mg thrice) and Prothiedin, a Tricyclic (perhaps not available in US). The dose of the Tricyclic is 25 mg, 25 mg and 75 mg, daily. As I got older, I started having other uncomfortable body problems. These are GERD and of late burning sensation in the back. In winters there is some relief but then I get winter itch. Can't say if these are due to long term use of meds or due to the Anxiety. I want to come off meds. My Psychiatrist, however, does not seem to be interested. I want to have the help from the members of this forum in order to come off the meds. Thanks

We'd really like your doctor to be on board with any taper off clonazepam. In what way is he not interested? Does he not believe you need to taper in order to get off clonazepam or he thinks you need to stay on the medication? Many members have tapered off clonazepam. I'm currently doing so. It's very doable. Because you've been on it for some time, a slow taper would be the best way to go, in my opinion. You can check out our titration board and see how you feel about tapering using that method. Hope
[Ra...]
Thanks for your message, Hope. Every time I take up the issue of getting off the meds, the Psychiatrist dips the Clonazepam a bit and next time he goes back to the older level. However, may be that he genuinely goes by what he thinks is best. I'm due for consultation on March 12. This time, I shall discuss the issue in depth. Shall come back to the BB after the next consultation.
[On...]
Welcome Rajen, I'm new on BenzoBuddies too. Your issue with burning and itching on your back caught my attention since I have had this problem as well on and off for years. I now know that it was from my diazepam use for the last 16 years minus this last month. I was prescribed the diazepam for Meniere's disease ( bouts of vertigo). I would go through 3- 5mg. tablets a day when the vertigo spinning was bad and would taper down to one at night when I was just very unbalanced. So my use was very sporadic which left me going into withdrawals in various stages for years. Anyway, one of the symptoms I would get was a really itchy spot between my left shoulder blade and my spine, it would follow with a burning and numb sensation and often I would also have the left side of my face get numb and some teeth would hurt on that side as well. This was really pronounced this last time when I quit entirely a little more than a month ago. If you can find a way to get off of your benzo's, try to do it, perhaps using more natural applications for your underlying problems for which you were put on the medicine in the first place. Be careful that your doctor may not be very knowledgeable with benzo's and may end up not acting on your best interest. That's just my take on it. Best of luck to you! On The Mend
