Amoxicillin for UTI? Ok to take during withdrawal? Scared of Macrobid & Bactrim-

Went to a walk-in clinic today and tested positive for a UTI. Doctor was ready to give Cipro but I said no (he said he had no idea it interacted with Benzos) and I also told him no to Bactrim because of all the bad things I heard about it bringing back w/d symptoms. He prescribed Macrobid and said not to worry, that there's no way it will interfere with Benzo withdrawal and that they give it to pregnant women. I also managed to get a prescription for Amoxicillin from my regular doctor by request as an alternative. The walk-in clinic doc said Amoxicillin isn't for a UTI, but I've read online thru the Mayo Clinic that it is. I honestly don't feel as though he really knew what he was talking about due to his 1st choice of Cipro and his oblivion to how bad it would be for me. I've read some pretty bad things about Macrobid as well for w/d symptoms. Long story short, I chickened out and took the Amoxicillin. Did I make the right choice? It seems to be the one that those in w/d say reacts the least. I hope this is true and that it clears up the infection. I've been really freaked out about this for a few days and have been hoping that I didn't actually have an infection. Now I know I do. I haven't taken any precription medication since 8/5/11 and really didn't want to chance it now.

I have knocked out a UTI with lots of water and cranberry juice over a couple of days. Don't go overboard because you can actually drink TOO much water. I understand your nervousness but at some point you have to weigh the pros and cons, and risking a UTI going up into your kidneys might not be worth avoiding ALL antibiotics. I was given an antibiotic during w/d and had no problem. I also needed versed for sedation 2 months after my w/d symptoms ended, and I had no w/d from that versed at all.

Two months ago i was prescribed Macrobid for a UTI.  It was nowhere in the category of Cipro (fluroquins) and it did get rid of the UTI (5 day prescription).  It was effective so I'd probably use it again, but I also felt lousy during the 5 days and a few days after.  Perhaps there are better antibiotics during w/d I don't kow.  I'm just going by this one experience so take it for what it's worth.

I don't know if because my CNS is so sensitive, the antibiotic s/x were stronger than they would be if that weren't the case or if Macrobid just has s/x.  So bottom line is it sucked to be me (more than usual lol) for several days, but the UTI is gone and so are the effects of Macrobid.

For what it's worth :)
