physical symptoms... do they leave

Hi I am 11 months off of clonazepam and 5 months off of zopiclone.  I have pressure, tingling in my scalp and face and tightness through my upper abdomem and burning in my chest.  Have other people had this and when did it subside for you.  It is very upsetting and causing a great deal of anxiety.  I thought the the physical symptoms left first.  Does anyone know?

Hi Pegasus!

I assumed that once off of Benzos, the physical s/x would be the first to go...and I HOPED they would be b/c my physical s/x have been what brought me to my knees on several occasions.  I still have many physical s/x BUT I am seeing a big decline in the intensity of them.  I have noticed in the past months that some members often talked about the nerve pain/tingling feeling several months out from Benzos.

Just try to remember that these are feelings and they can't harm you.  I have to remind myself that every time I have cramping or burning pain.  It's just our body's way of healing.  I get the upper abdomen tightness but it is lessening to the point I only have it every few weeks.  These things will go away eventually, it can just take time.

All the best to you...try to reassure yourself you're healing and these uncomfortable feelings will pass (they cause anxiety for me too...I can 100% empathize with you)

Big hugs,

Schatje

Thank you Schatje    (((((HUGS)))))

I am glad to hear that your symptoms are easing up and you are getting some relief.

I find that the longer that they go on the more stressed I get.  I really want this to go away so that I can concentrate on mental healing.

Thanks again

My back is so raw, it burns. I hate these physical s/x's. I hope they do go, soon. My tachycardia went away so far. I have a way to go. But the physical stuff, like Schatje says has brought me to my knees.

Billy.

Hi BillyF    I hope you see some improvements.

The physical symptoms are very difficult to deal with and it has been a long time for me and I am getting discouraged.

I know that everyone says that we heal and I try to reassure myself of that.

Hope things get better soon

Hi - My physical symptoms have been the worst and the worst one is still with me.  I took my last clorazepate August 2010 and have been off for 18 months.  Burning, tingling skin and feeling hot a lot of the time.  I have periods now where the discomfort is in the background.  I have all my energy back and have re-entered my old life and that is very welcome.  I don't know how long this burning skin problem is going to last.  I have not read about anyone who has had it go on and on and then had it go away.  I'm sure they're out there though.  I have read that GI symptoms and paresthesia are two lingering symptoms in protracted withdrawal.  I have found some relief with passionflower, but that just calms down the nerves - it's not a cure.  I fully expect to have this go away at some point - can't be too soon.

Hope you feel better soon, Paresthesia

I'm 6 months benzo free and I have physical symptoms every single day.  Burning skin, heart skipping a beat...sore, burning eyes, morning adrenaline rushes, tinnitus and much more.  However, I have either become accustomed to these things or they are subtley subsiding in intensity as I am finally able to get out of the house and do things.  While tapering, I sat in a chair and stared into space for almost a year.  It's so draining...trying to cope and appear normal when your body is screaming for mercy but I have been trying to get back into the real world anyway.  Yes...l usually pay the ultimate price of having symptoms rev up afterwards but I'm sick of the whole ordeal and allowing The Beast to control my life.

These things are not permanent and you will heal!

Donna
