Weird Stomach pain last Night

[ws...]

Recommended Posts

I am 14 months off Valium.  Last night I was awoken my severe stomach pain unlike any other stomach pain I have ever had in my life...it was all over my stomach area and not intestional but more close to the surface area of the entire muscles mass that surrounds the abdomen.  I was severe and scary.  It lasted 15 minutes then subsided.

I was wondering if anybody else has experienced this type of problem before on this forum?

Thanks.

Andy

Hey Andy,

Yes, you are not alone on this front.  I have had terrible stomach/gut issues, nothing like I've ever felt before.  Its almost as if the muscles are contracting and twisting.  I've done alot of readingg on this and apparently humans have a higher concentration of GABA receptors in the gut than even in the brain.  As I'm sure you know GABA regulates the communication between ALL nerve cells, brain cells (neurons) as well as muscle cells.

Peristalsis is the coordination of muscle nerve cells that moves food through our digestive system.  Muscles all along our GI tract have to contract and release in a tightly coordinated pattern to move food along.  The neurotransmitter GABA is the primary means by which neighboring muscle cells coordinate with one another to get this process done.  So obviously, if we have a significantly impaired gaba receptor system throughout our bodies muscles all along our GI tract contract and release in a chaotic and disorgantized fashion, and perhaps with greater force.  This is likely what causes the strange pain and twisting sensation that we feel in our stomachs.

Not that an understanding of the situation helps how you feel but it makes it easiler to chalk it up to a wd sympotom that will resolve in time.

Take Care, Scott.

Thanks Scott.  it was so weird i have trouble explaining it....felt like a dull cramping feeling that hurt and no matter what postion I got in it still hurt...a long ten minutes for sure.  I panicked becasue i didnt know what it was and never had it before.

Scott have you had this happen many times or was it one isolated occurence?

Thanks again.

Andy
