Recommended Posts

I was a diazepam addict for six years. I was taking big doses, but i gradually cut down/ Last week I was taking 0.5 mg per day and at the moment i am 6 days clean. Everything was fine but at the third day i experienced weird deja vu feeling. I still get that now but its mild. Now i have a feeling that my head is heavy, i cant think, act, and i am very scared

HI maja,

Let me start by saying..anything you're feeling won't hurt you. These are just sensations and although they feel frightening, I promise they can't hurt you. It's just your Central Nervous System getting used to not having diazepam.

Many members experience symptoms when they finally stop taking their benzo. This is completely normal and expected.

Can you tell us more about how you tapered? Was it a rapid taper? Have you tapered before and reinstated? Anything you can tell us will help.

Hope

30 mg of diasepam from 2006

20 mg diasepam from August 2011 (quick tapered) and down to 0.5 mg. Cutting down 1 mg per two weeks. Sometimes i drank but not now.

The last 2 months i was cutting down miligrams to come to 0.5 mg but i was only taking that for 5, 6 days and i had to stop.

It sounds like you just need to let your system settle down a bit. I know these sensations can be unsettling but keep in mind the more stressed/anxious you are about these sensations, the worse they tend to get.

Try to stay as calm and relaxed as you and and remind yourself that although they're scary, these symptoms can't hurt you.

maja,

I can certainly understand  that withdrawals from Benzos are scary, confusing, and painful.  It's not easy, I know, but try to remember that all you are feeling is temporary.

We will help you get through this.  keep asking questions, and try to relax, knowing that it will all end, and you will feel good again.

the best to you

pj
