I've been reading this board for a while, decided to participate.

Was put on K 1.5 mg, single pm dose, in 2007. Psych told me it would help with my morning stress dealing with getting kids ready for school while simultaneously getting for work. The K was certainly helpful in this regard. In summer 2009, I tried "tapering" by cutting my dose in half while on a vacation. SLAMMED within 2 days. Did some research and decided to pursue a slow direct taper. .125 mg cuts every three weeks worked although with some withdrawal.

Parked at .75mg for 6 months, resumed taper on Jan1. The next .125mg cut down to .625 came with pretty bad W/D. Added 5 mg Lexapro hoping it would help. SLAMMED. Bad idea. went 6 days slleping a total of 10 hrs. Adrenaline surges, DP/DR, rolling pa's, 12lb wt loss in 2 weeks etc. Dropped Lexapro, increased k to 1 mg, stabilized within a week.

Now in the early stages of crossover to V. Currently .5mg K, 7 V

Hi Deerslayer and welcome to Benzo Buddies!

I too was prescribed Clonazepam as a single pm dose - around the same time you did.  I was on 1mg.  I eventually did the crossover to Diazepam as well, as tapering from Clonazepam proved to be too difficult.  I am now 7 months free of Diazepam and seeing big signs of improvement and healing.

How are you feeling during the crossover process?  Please let us know how we can help you in any way.  You'll find a lot of support here and on the various boards.

All the best and take care,

Schatje

I am feeling OK with the crossover so far, but I am early in it. I plan to convert .125 mg of K to 2.5 V at 4 day intervals. I am nervous about w/d as I have read that K leaves the system faster than V kicks in. Do you have any advice on my crossover schedule? Is there anything I should prepare myself for. If this string should be moved to a different board, please do so.

Whenever I made a new cut to my Clonazepam and introduced more Diazepam, I didn't feel anything till about 2-3 days later.  I'd have 1-2 really bad days, but then it would settle again.  And once fully on Diazepam, my body settled a few days later and I actually felt really good for about 2 weeks.  Then I made my first cut at 3 weeks and didn't feel it all that much.  That being said I was still feeling the effects of making too much of a cut initially to Clonazepam.  Previously, I had gone from 1mg to .75mg in one shot, and that hit me hard.  I never really fully stabilized from that.

With my crossover, I followed the Ashton Manual almost to a "T".  I made a crossover every couple of weeks and I believe it was done in 3 stages.  Then once fully on Diazepam, I held for a few weeks and then began my taper.  It is honestly a blur to me...my husband was the one who measured it all for me.

Once I got into the lower doses, I had the liquid suspension from the pharmacy. It helped so much with making smaller cuts.  Once fully on Diazepam, I cut 1mg per week, and then eventually switched to .5mg every 5 days.  Some people prefer to go slower than that, but this is what worked well for me.

I'm so happy to hear you are feeling okay so far - that's a great sign!

All my best,

Schatje
