Celexa and Klonopin. Should I taper the Celexa now?

[Go...]

Recommended Posts

I am in the process of tapering 1.75mg of Klonopin.  I was taking Ambien and I successfully tapered it over a month and then started tapering the Klonopin.  I am also taking 20 mg of Celexa.  I have been struggling with nausea throughout this process and I am wondering if The Celexa could be causing problems and I should also stop it before proceeding on the Klonopin taper.

Also wondering if drinking Orange Juice could Rev up we symptoms.

Thanks

If you decide to taper the celexa I would switch to the liquid. I tapered off of it last year. I dropped a mg every week. You could switch to liquid and maybe make a small cut to see if it helps.

You normally want to taper off of one drug at a time.  It is generally recommended that you taper off of benzos before antidepressants, but that is something you can discuss with your physician.

I am also on 1.75 mg. of Klonopin but am tapering it before Paxil.  I got off of Paxil last year and then tried to taper Klonopin, but it didn't work.  I had such extreme depression, weakness, loss of appetite, sleep issues, etc. that I had to go back on Paxil, so I have learned from my mistake.

At any rate, that's my suggestion.

Hope your Klonopin taper goes well.

Sincerely,

fg

Some people take their a/d in the evening and it helps with sleep.  Others take it in the morning to help with activating energy.  If Celexa helps you sleep, it would make sense to taper it about six months after you finish the benzo taper, but check with your doctor, especially if you think the celexa might be causing some other s/x.

Some people recommend against tapering two things at once.  If benzo withdrawal causes you to be overreactive to symptoms, then the symptoms from a different withdrawal could be that much worse.

Also, there was a period where  was tapering off valium, and tried prozac, and seroquel and then was stopping those.  I was having all sorts of symptoms and I didn't know what was causing what -- was I tapering valium too fast?  or getting insomnia from the prozac, or was it stopping the prozac etc?  When that happens you do not know what to do.  I realize that the Celexa may be causing problems, so I know that makes it tricky.
