[Li...]
Has anyone had experience with TheRoadBack.org? Has anyone studied the JNK gene, and if so, is it reacting to our meds, as this org purports? Interesting theories, may be worth a couple hundred dollars to get a feel for the supplements before starting a taper program. Just can't imagine a 'good' time to start trying to get Med free. Insomnia was my life for 30 years, before the last 20 full of meds. Sleeps ALWAYS been the major obstacle in my life. Going through all the hell to get off - leaves me where? Back with raging insomnia? Had tried every homeopathic remedy and CBT in those days. Nothing worked. It is Primary insomnia. But maybe, maybe these supplements have a key? Anybody have experience/input? Thanks,
[Me...]
I too have suffered from insomnia for most of my life (51 years old). I have never slept through a single night since my eldest child's birth (he is now 21). I have been taking Z-drugs and Benzo's for almost 13years now. I too have explored almost every treatment available and like you have a fear that having gone through a "sensible" taper am going to be left with....Insomnia. My last attempt resulted in 21 nights straight of zero sleep. I have read about "The Road Back.org" and quite frankly I think it is just another money-spinning racket - afterall there is also no guarantee that it is going to work either. Most of the supplements they promote are available at health stores for much less their price. We are desperate and they know it. As for the "JNK gene" it is just a "biological concocted acronym" to promote their diet. I studied physiology for 7 years and had never heard of it before 2002 when their diet was launched (go figure). What I have been using that seems to be helping (unfortunately not curing :'() is Magnesium!! I take a supplement called Natural Sleep which is a mix of Glycine 3000mg, Theanin 300mg and Magnesium Lactate 2000mg (this supplies 200mg elemental magnesium) . This gets dissolved in 100ml of water and makes a lovely night time drink. I also take a 450mg Slow release magnesium during the day. There is a book available called the Magnesium Miracle which states that magnesium shortages cause insomnia. Please remember everybody is different - the previous forum I was on preferred its members not to use supplements while tapering however since being on BB I have found members who have suggested it and I tried it with no s/e. [La...]
Hi, I too am what seems like a life long insmniac and have taken sleeping meds for over 20yrs. My rebound insomnia has been awful but I finally got a good, almost 6 hrs last night, I feel so blessed, maybe it will continue throughout my taper or maybe not, but all I can say is I give thanks every day that I am alive to feel this withdrawal as I drank very heavily and took 2 benzos , all at night, its what keeps me going, that I lived, and it didnt stop my breathing in the night!! I am not familiar with the road back program but it seems like most people out there are just pushing their products as they know there are lots of desparate sleepless folks out there that will try anything, seems like time is the only constant here. I have resigned myself to thinking I will never achieve natural sleep again but now I have renewed hope Ladygrace
