[JO...]
Jane, I think it varies for everyone. In my case I have remained almost symptom free through out taper. I have had some insomnia , emotional upset ,muscle twitches and they have been on and off pretty mild.the key is to go slow listen to your body and throw out any timeline. Good luck with your taper
Guest [ja...]
yeah those are my sxs as well, nothing too major...i hope things dont get bad when i start to decrease my Valium...ive yet to know what that feels like. Valium is easier to get off of than xanax right?

Totally! The people who are experiencing smooth sailing just aren't hanging around on a message board looking for support.
[JO...]
Jane, If I were in your shoes I would hold for a month let the valium build in your system . It very well may cover most of the xanax withdrawal. The key is to be patient even though it is hard some times. Once you are stable you may be able to cut in 2mg increments until you get to the lower numbers. I think you will find relief being on the longer half life benzo. Good luck . [sp...]
I have some symptoms, but in general, bad symptoms are a sign I'm doing something wrong (cutting too fast, or not taking care of myself in basic ways in terms of diet, exercise, abstaining from all other substances, etc). I'm not off yet, but I've been through this once before, and I was able to get down to zero without anything that kept me from going to work or causing me to lose my relationship. My wife, god bless her soul, is watching me go through the same stupid BS a second time, and not giving me a hard time about it. Don't read too much into the worst case stories you read (in fact I'd say try not to read them at all), those people are not you. If you worry too much about how bad things will get, they are almost certain to get worse. If you can have faith in your ability to heal and be okay, then you are almost certain to heal and be okay. Note that even though I have said "God" and "faith", I am not a religious person. If you are, then that's one more tool you have going for you, but I do not believe it's necessary to have that to recover.
[JO...]
Spengler, Wanted to wish you well in your taper. I have been at this for a long time and can't wait to be free. I noticed an increase in symptoms from the last cut 5. to 4.5 am going to hold then reduce by .25 and see how it goes. Trying to make this as painless as possible and am doing surprisingly well. I think it's true what you say about avoiding the horror stories. We are all different but being as positive as we can helps make this a bit more tolerable. [an...]
Can't tell you how wonderful to read that this is doable, just about DONE with all the horror stories! You all give me hope. I will start my taper from Valium in about 4 weeks. Do any of you know if once you c/o from another benzo to Valium that yo :)u need to hold and stabolize for 30 days before you start your taper? I read that somewhere but I dont believe it was the Ashton manual?? Thanks for the hope, it means so very much!!
[sp...]
Hold until you feel ready to start cutting, I say. When I crossed from 1.5mg k to 30mg v last time, I may have held for 3 weeks or so. This time around I crossed from 0.3mg phenazepam to 7.5mg v and made a cut almost immediately because I was in no distress and feeling sedated (may have been an excess v dose to co to, the English Lang lit on phenazepam is very limited). Your body and mind are your best guide, and I think its better to go slower than to end up needing to updose.
