[Ni...]
Hi there, My name is Kitty and Im 31 yrs old, currently 15 weeks pregnant with my 2nd pregnancy and currently attempting to withdrawl from Temazepam (restoril) Im finding it really difficult as my doc is trying to taper me 5mg at a time, I suffer from extreme anxiety, Health anxiety ptsd and panic disorder. I'm just looking for anyone who has tapered during pregnancy and some info on what withdrawl schedule worked for people, im currently about to visit my doc today and show her the Ashton method where the temazepam is tapered using diazepam for a cleaner withdrawl, I just really want off my medication before my babys born, Im worried ther eis going to be issues with the pregnancy and birth if i dont do this, obviously my baby's health and well being is far more important to me than anything. So any information anyone could give me would be very very much appreciated. thanks Kitty xx
[Be...]
Hi and Welcome to BenzoBuddies, Ninja Kitty. Congratulations on your pregnancy. Off hand I don't know if we have any current members who have tapered off a benzo or benzo-like drug, such as temapezam, while pregnant but I know we have had such members from time to time. Probably some of the other members will be able to offer some more specific support. I just wanted to welcome you and also to ask if you'd considered the Titration Taper method. It doesn't require you to cross over to a benzo and then taper off that but you can make really small reductions in dose. There's a Titration Tapers board with more information if you are interested. How much Temazepam are you currently taking and could you give a bit more information about how you've been tapering, over what period of time? [Ni...]
Thanks Ive been taking the temazepam for over a year now i started on 10mg per night and went up to 30mg by august last yr, i have managed to taper down to 20mg which i take nightly atm, but my doc is trying to make me drop by 5mg again to 15mg, which I have tried but with shocking results (far bigger drop than before). I have around 20 weeks left to withdraw as much as i can before the baby is born, I am trying desperately to be on as low a dose as possible or completely free before the baby is here as i Personally couldnt stand seeing my baby go through withdrawl symptoms. My problem is, is that i live in a very small community in the middle of nowhere and therre currently isnt much help availalble in the mental health department. Like i said before i have the Ashton method to hand to show my doctor. I shall see what the doc says today when I see her but hopefully she will have more info than before thanks Kitty
[La...]
Hi, congratulations for wanting to get off Temazepam, I am withdrawing from it using the water titration method and for me it will be taking about 3 months, I started out with 30mg and am down to taking 20mg. The recommend from ashton is about 10% every 10 days or so so your drop of 5 mg in a week is a little quick IMO. with the liquid titration you have more control and can drop smaller amts every day like I am doing by mixing the whole dose in 100ml of water and then taking out 1 or 2 mls a night and seeing how your body reacts to that , you said you have about 20weeks before baby comes so you could do it in that time frame with hopefully less withdrawal side effects Ladygrace
[Ni...]
Thanks ladygrace I will need to read up on titration because the whole thing baffles me tbh lol and i dont rly understand how it works so im reading through the section at the moment. Thank you for your input. can i ask you a question though? How do you find the withdrawl symptoms? thats whats worrying me more than anything because high anx and no sleep or lack of sleep isnt good when pregnant either and this is obviously worrying me a lot as well. again i appreciate your insight and well done on your progress, its very inspiring to know people out there are strong andhave the will power to do this xxx
[La...]
Hi Ninja, I too was and am worried about withdrawing as I have been on this medication for a long long time. I was put on it for insomnia and now that I am withdrawing I am suffering from insomnia but I did expect that and unfortunatley it seems a common withdrawal side effect, but hopefully if you have insomnia l like this you can just keep thinking that it for the baby that you have to keep strong and do it! I have also had a feeling of heavy upper thighs , and a feeling of inability to take a deep breath, which I have experienced even when on the drugs over the years. My eyesight seems to get blurry in the evening. The liquid titration method that I am using took me awhile to grasp too as I also have found that these benzos do a number on your mind and ability to grasp concepts but if you chose this method it really lets you control the rate of your taper, there is a good video showing exactly how to do it on utube which hopefully you will find the link to in the titration section, this is an amazing forum with so much help. Hope I am able to help you like others are helping me, I know its of great support to find someone else on the same drug, if you use the search button and type in Temazepam, you will find others here too on this medication with lots of success stories , Ladygrace
