Ambien Withdrawl - What Should I Expect?

Recommended Posts

Took Ambien for 6 months (5-10 mg once a day) for insomnia.  Started having dizziness, anxiety/panic and after seeing many doctors trying to figure out what was wrong with me decided to discontinue the Ambien and see if it was contributing to the problem.  I immediately found relief from the dizziness.  Initially (1-2 days) felt and slept great.  But, the following week was extremely rough (3 nights of NO sleep at all) and lots of evening anxiety (what is it with the evening and anxiety - anyone else this way)?  Anyhow, while I do feel better in many ways and am having bigger and bigger windows of feeling good, I still have days with weird symptoms (tingling head and face/anxiety/insomnia).  Also, certain things can trigger anxiety in me pretty severely (heat; like a hot room/grocery stores) and that wave of anxiety really frightens me and makes me afraid I am no better off than I was before.  I just want to get better and feel like I can trust my body and emotions.

I would love to know how others felt during their Ambien withdrawl and find hope in your stories.  Thanks!

Hi turtlegirl,

I quit taking Ambien after using it for three years.  I feel so much better now, than i ever did while taking it.  I had many sleepless, and anxiety filled nights for awhile, but i can  now sleep about 7 hours at a time.  It will get better for you, just as it has for me, and many others.

the best to you

pj
