Hi, Janedoe.

I can certainly sympathize with being impatient to get on with it.  Generally speaking, it still would be better to crossover fromt he Xanax to the Valium even if you do it in bigger "chunks" than Prof Ashton uses.  How much Xanax and how much Valium are you on now?

BTW, I hope you don't literally intend to flush the Xanax down the toilet.  There's a real problem with drugs in the drinking water so that's not a good way to dispose of them.

Hey janedoe,

I didn't find this site until I was a week off of clonazapam, I was in real bad shape at that point. I was on clonazapam .5mg once a day for 3.5 years. I tapered as follows:

Week 1: cut dosage in half, went from .5mg/day to .25mg/day - I cut on Monday, then Tuesday and Wednesday of that week I experienced a little nausea, didn't even associate it with the cut until I learned more about w/d

Week 2: held at .25mg/day

Week 3: cut dosage in half again to .125mg/day - again I cut on Monday and on Tuesday and Wednesday I experienced a little nausea

Week 4: held at .125mg/day

Week 5: Took .125mg on Monday, I was going to try .125mg every other day. By Wednesday I felt pretty decent so I decided I didn't want to take it anymore. Thursday had a bit of a headache and Friday I experienced a headache with a period of irritability. Saturday came and I had a horrible headache accompanied by extreme nausea (never got sick tho). Later that day I went to the grocery store and felt like I was going to pass out. When I walk in I got so sick, I was so sensitive to sound and the lights especially. I will never forget how bright it was!! Sunday I started to feel better, just a little nausea. Monday I felt pretty decent the beginning of the day, then during the afternoon I started to feel really weird, pretty irritable. At this point I honestly thought I had a stomach bug, with all the nausea and what not. I had no idea I was in w/d. Monday afternoon is when I found this site, that is when I learned all about the w/d of benzos. Later that night I had the worst panic attack of my life. Tuesday morning I woke up having a panic attack. I could write and write about everything I experienced on here, but I already did under progress log, check it out if you want.

If I had known what I was getting myself into I would've tapered more. My body seemed to handle the 50% cuts, but when I jumped off at the amount that I did it was awful. I hope this doesn't scare you, I just don't want you to experience what I did. I jumped off really quickly. If you want to taper a bit faster, I can't blame you, but I wouldn't necessarily suggest it. I totally understand why you would want to because I did too!! If you do, I would just really pay attention to your body. If you start feeling awful definately slow down. I suffered big time for about a week and a half. I feel like I recovered really quickly tho, I mean, three weeks off and I'm not feeling 100%, probably like 80%. The end of week 1 until the end of week 2 was the absolute worst, I didn't even leave the house!!! Not just because I felt like complete crap, but because I was experiencing such great anxiety I was scared to leave!! Right now my only side effects are a depression and insomnia. I'll take it tho! At its worst I was, no joke, experiencing atleast 20 different physical and psychological symptoms at the same time. I never thought I would say this, but I'm glad I was out of work for that experience. I probably would've lost my job if I had one.

Whatever your desicion is, I wish you the best of luck!!! And congrats for wanting to come off of these evil little pills!!

With that much Valium, you could be right, Jane.  I hope you continue to do well. You are going to hold at 45mg for a while before reducing your dose, is that right?
