To where I wanna flush all the Xanax down the toilet. I am currently down to 1.25 w/ 30 mgs of valium per day. Ive slept for about 18 hours... I feel fine just moody, depressed and adgitated. I feel happy that ive made it this far in 4 months....I never thought Id make it past 2 mg but I am taking it one day at a time. I cut my dose by .5 three days ago and want to cut more. I know its not safe but I just wanna c/o to valium all together because I dont want to have a double addiction. Its been over 4 months since Ive been on Valium and I want to know what could possibly happen if i cut again by .25 or flushed my meds all together and just took valium for now on and cut from there? I know most would suggest not to do that but am I in danger of seziures or anything super life threatening if I do so?

Don't cold turkey off.  You may be feeling bad now but if you do that, you could be setting yourself up for a very long haul.  I seen where your main symptom is mood swings?  I've had those as well and have thought more than once, "I'm just going to lay this crap down and get it over with" ...but then I read so many that have protracted withdrawal and it's really NOT worth it.  You may have more symptoms than just mood swings.  If I'm wrong about the mood swings then excuse me, I read your sig.

Take care and hope that you begin to feel better real soon!

ya the mood swings can be intense, towards the end of xanax taper, ( when you get under 1mg ) can u taper .25 every week? or does it have to be cut smaller when you get lower? thank you for advice and comment :)

I would definately cut smaller if I were you.  You can never be too careful with this stuff, ya know?

Best of luck!  And hope that you find relief soon!

I am a bit confused.  Are you talking about crossing over to valium?  Are you in the process of a crossover and just want to be on the valium?  If that is the case you might want to take a look at the Ashton manual and see what professor Ashton suggests about the waiting time when crossing over.  However,  I also did the Ashton crossover from klonopin to valium.  I grew rather impatient with the time involved in the crossover and went quicker and actually jumped a few steps.  I really had no problems with the crossover.  Hopefully others will chime in.  Best of luck.      Ginia

ya gina thats EXACTALLY what im talking about...im thinking of just cutting the xanax all together and converting to valium, possibly taking more than I am now to substitute for the Xanax. Just a note I was on 4mgs of xanax initially and I really think 80 mgs of v would be waaaaaaaaaaaay to much for me, even with just the crossover...I think I may be comfortable at like 45-50 mg V...

For what it's worth, I just crossed from .5 x to 10 v - so a very different dosage. However, I spoke to several doctors experienced in benzo wd, and they agreed that especially coming from xanax, since the half life is SO short, that I would do better crossing ovr very quickly. I don't believe  you would be at risk of seizures since you still have significant benzos in your bloodstream. The main disadvantage to crossing over quickly is that v takes a while to build up in your bloodstream sso you may feel as though you had a cut for.the.first week or so but since you have already crossed over half your dose it shouldn't be too bad. My vote is to finish the crossover quickly - maybe a week or two - then stabilize on that dose before beginning your taper. However, maybe the issues are different when crossing over from such a large dose - maybe someone with experience of.that can chime in. Hope you feel better soon!

Hi Jane. I agree with Improbable, that there should not be a risk of seizures with that much valium in your system now. Check with your doctor, but I would think you could in the next week or two finish your cross over and stabilize at 50 or 60mg of valium, as you said. Sometimes you are best off going with your own intuition and instincts. By crossing to a lesser dose, be prepared to hold for a couple weeks to stabilize before proceeding with your taper. Vertigo

well its kind of like what they did over at kaiser permanente detox center. Ive been there and tried to detox like 4 times. All that they gave me was serax and the only reason they gave me even serax is because i was also heavily drinking. They normally give phenobarbital ( they are strong believers in rapid detox non narcotic medicine ) in very large doses. You go in every day and they give you a packet of pills and evaluate you. I lasted a week on the phenobarbital, i just had anxiety, woke up more often, FELT REALITY, but at the time which was like only 8 months into useage and i was only at like 2.5 mgs of xanax, I didnt have much support at the time, nor the drive to get off the medicine. I decided to open up a few beers thinking that it wouldnt do me any harm and from there reinstated the xanax and here I am now detoxing on my own. I dont really go to a regular doctor. I go to a marijuana clinic that pretty much will perscribe you anything, I think thats why they are so willing to help me with ashton manual. BUT, they always tell me, "why dont you just smoke weed?" sorry doctor it doesnt work that way. I think Im gonna just c/o today to 50 or 60 mg of valium. Ill try 50 and see how i feel. IM SCARED! The .5 cut was nothingi didnt even increase my valium, im on day 4 of the cut and feel fine. In fact, I havent even taken any valium or xanax today yet. I hope im not jynxing myself into a long road of hell but I guess we will see.
