Has anyone moved / relocated during w/d? How do I do this with no help???

I haven't worked in over a year and can no longer afford to stay where I am. Going to most likely end up moving halfway across the country. Physical activity brings symptoms back for me. I have a whole apartment to pack up and it's beyond overwhelming. I can't even bring myself to pack some clothes. I want no part of being in that place at all. Has anyone hired full-service movers who pack & load for you? I'm going to end up paying a lot of money for it but I just can not do it myself. Just being there is a major trigger for me. I did a lot of drinking in that apartment and now that I no longer drink, don't want to be anywhere near it for longer than 5 minutes. I was there during the first brutal month and since then have been with my elderly mother. Now the money has run out. I feel like abandoning everything I own and just taking off. Oh, and I have absolutely no one to help me so that's out of the question. Does anyone know if there's someone who will do it for me for $???

I was forced to move smack dad in the middle of acute wd and it was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. Literally. I had to pack half of my stuff to go in storage and the other half to take to my new place and I remember standing there staring at my stuff for hours on end unable to sort the storage items from the rest. I think it took me 2 weeks to do what should have taken me 3 days. Then in my new place I had to wade through a mess for a couple of months until I was well enough to finally put a few things away. Almost a year later I'm still not organized but at least my place is livable.

If you can afford it I would definitely hire someone to help.

I moved in the middle of tolerance withdrawal Kate.  Hmmm....I thought things would change if I moved but they really didn't.  I did hire packer/movers though, that was good.  Also like threw practically everything I owned out...wanted to make a fresh start!  Thought my panic and agoraphobia would go away!  Alas, it didn't.  However, I did manage to get a part time job.  K.

Yup I'm having to move literally across the country while in acute wd. I'll be driving nearly three thousand miles next week. I don't know what will be worse the packing or the driving.

Hi. I don't know about moving during withdrawal, but I do know something about driving cross country not long after my taper ended.  It's important to not try to overdo the drives, maybe 6-7 hours a day max with at least two stops.  I had a mini panic on one leg where I tried to drive 10 plus hours in a day, wasn't good and not worth it.  If you can afford to take an extra day or two to make your drive more manageable, that could be helpful.  Where are you moving to?  As for the move, I agree that if you can afford it or get help from a family member, hire somebody to help out.  Some things are easy like clothes.  Dishes, electronics, sentimental things and breakables are a little tougher although maybe you'll pack some of those in your car yourself?  Also, some people find it more cost effective to try and sell older furniture or bulky things on Craig's List and/or have some kind of yard sale to unload things that may not be worth paying to transport since moves are often based on weight and then paying storage fees for old furniture may not be prudent especially if you could use some money now.  Do you have any friends that might be able to help with something like that? Also, it might be worthwhile to go through your closet once and give away some older clothes to lessen the load.  Be careful of Craig's List though.  Maybe schedule one or two days for people to look at and buy your things and have somebody with you if you can, even if it's a neighbor or a neighbor's son you can pay to be there with you.

Looks like I'm definitely going to hire "full service" movers who pack and load, along with a trailer that they store, then eventually ship to the new place when I'm ready. I too, am going a few thousand miles away, but driving myself is totally out of the option. Has anyone used "Moving Staffers" or U-Pack??? I think that's what I'm gonna go with.

If I can survive the packing and loading process, then my stuff will be stored and my next problem will be getting on a plane. How I'm going to do that with no Xanax or alcohol is beyond me.
