Are you off of benzos or still on them?

fg

Off, i have been off for a while now..13 months...but I just stopped drinking in january..so i dont know if some of my wd symptoms were delayed b/c of the drinking...

It could be related to the drinking.  From what I've read, they recommend anywhere from 4 months to 2 years after taking your last benzo before taking a drink (since alcohol works on the same GABA receptors).

I hope you heal speedily.

Sincerely,

I had/have  ALL of what you described..

head pain at the bottom of my head, at the back (near my neck) (intense and constant in the beginning, now occasional and less intense)

stabbing head pains, quick shooting pains (started at 6 months off, comes and goes)

fullness, pressure, heaviness (constant and severe in the beginning, now occasional and less intense)

hot spots, cold spots on head (not to the touch, but I felt like I would have a hot/cold spot) (has been occasional from the beginning, and still shows up once in a while)

Always a good thing to get other stuff ruled out when it comes to head issues so I'm glad you're going to the doc. on Monday! But I'm sure all will be fine.

Hope you feel better soon...

thanks august...did you get a MRI? I am so scared to get one..I went the 1st time to see the neurologist and he tried to put me on celebrex..I didnt wanna take that stuff knowing that it could possibly be withdrwl from benzos...

yes I had an MRI in the beginning... all was good.

I was also offered all sorts of meds for the pain... but after reacting badly to benzos, Lyrica and Elavil in the past, decided against trying anything else.

Why are you scared to get an MRI? They don't hurt ... it's noisy in there and a little tought to stay still for 30 minutes, but other than that... you're handling benzo withdrawal, you can handle anything now!!!!

Anyway, you are seeing your neurologist on Monday, if he suggests one, I would do it... it's so reassuring after to know you have done it and all was ok

RMack,

No, I don't take ANY meds right now, and I hope I can keep it that way. ;)

I tried Elavil last year for nerve pain, and reacted badly to it.  Ended up in the ER with elevated heart rate, tunnel vision, and a bunch of other stuff. I am VERY sensitive to all of these types of meds so I grit my teeth and do the best I can to push through the pain without meds...

I hope Edaluver will chime in and let us know how the appointment went with the neurologist today.

I'm going through this again myself.  I just had some testing that showed I have central nervous system problems. Big surprise.  I am having head pressure and headaches all the time and I am also 13 months out.  I have a hard time believing this is still benzo related but reading about others having the same issues, it must be true.  At least we are not alone.

I went to a balance clinic and they did all kinds of testing; warm and cool air in my ears, rotating chair, ENG, etc.  They could tell by the way my eyes moved during testing that it was CNS and not vestibular.  Basically not much they can do for it.  They wouldn't confirm it was benzo related, however.  I have yet to find a doctor who will validate benzo withdrawal.  I just have to believe that is what it is and it will eventally go away.

Wow, I've never heard of that kind of testing before.  Now I want it

That's good news that they could confirm it was CNS though...at least you have that to remind yourself of when in doubt.

We're all in the same boat  Diagnosis (or lack there of) by exclusion.  As long as everything else is normal, it's good news for us.  It means this will eventually go away and we are not dieing of some weird disease!!!!

Does't make it easier in the pain department though :tickedoff:

edaluver,

I know what you mean about doctor appts.  I have had so many the last few years that I couldn't tell you the number of visits.  The good news is that everything turned out fine, but the doctors seemed to be clueless about the effect of benzos.  Now I know it was all due to Klonopin.

I am continually amazed that very few docs are aware of benzo-related issues.  Fortunately, I have a good pdoc now that is very compassionate and wants me off of both Klonopin and Paxil due to my bad experiences with them.  I look forward to coming off of both of them and having my life back.

Sincerely,

fg
