Has anyone experienced neck/head pain during wd?

Hi BB,

Just wanted to know if anyone has experienced severe neck pain which radiates to your head vice-a-versus.  It almost feels like "brain-freeze" when you drink something really cold.

Thanks,

Yes, I have all kinds of headaches and stuff, and believe that it relates (in my case) to neuromuscular tension which is being compounded by:

* benzo withdrawl

* anxiety

* poor posture habits

of course #1 and #2 are related (and set me up to have problems with #3).

That said, if you're really having alarming headaches as a new symptom, I think the best course of action is to assume it's almost certainly related to benzo w/d but to go see a doctor anyway. Don't let yourself get stressed out worrying about it (this can literally make it worse), but I'm still saying see a doctor just because headaches can potentially be a symptom of a number of other problems, which could be serious. I don't think it's worth being worried about, but I do think it's worth getting it checked out.

Hi Spengler,

Thank you so much for responding to my post.  I really do appreciate it.

I am currently 6 months benzo free and I just jumped off Remeron (AD) a month ago so it is probably related to wd from one of these sources.  They are currently not severe; however, very uncomfortable.  It feels like someone is play tug of war with my neck muscles and my brain.  However, I will take your advice and get it checked out.

I deal with sever neck pain/stiffness that radiates up the back of my head into my forehead. It seems to be worse when I am standing and/or trying to do anything that requires my fine motor skills.

Yes, I have weird head stuff all the time, but not like normal headaches I ever had before. I told my wife months ago that it's like a never-ending annoying brain freeze. It's in the back of my neck too and parts of my spine hurts, possibly from bad posture and the withdrawal is making these feelings worse. The head stuff never stops and seems me to be the cause of my d/p, d/r, fog memory issues, blurry vision...it feels like my eyelids are connected to it and I want to go to sleep but can't. All these symptoms seem to be there with the head stuff because the one time it the head stuff went away I felt I could do all of that and my head was clear again to think.

Since it never really stops, I'm afraid it's brain damage but lots of people have said they had it too and that small window a couple months ago made me believe it's not permanent. I'm so frightened of it still though and when it gets really bad I don't know what to do but hang on.

Hi Coop,

Thank you so much for your feedback.  So sorry you are also dealing with the head pain as well.  I think I had this symptom on and off when tapering off the Klonapin and once I jumped.  However, it wasn't consistent.  This time around it is very consistent which leads me to believe it's probably due to my getting off the Remeron (AD) about a month ago.  Getting off these meds is so challenging.

Take care,

Sorry for not getting back sooner. I have not been to the doctor for this particular symptom. I'm pretty sure it is all benzo related because I never had this before. I have had an mri on my head and they say everything is fine.

I have been having terrible headaches lately.  Been living on Tylenol it seems for about a month.  My neck is very stiff and I have limited movement.  I am almost 13 months off and it seems as if I get new symptoms when the old ones leave.  Dizziness, balance problems, headaches, neck pain, and insomnia seem to be the worst right now.  I hope you get feeling better soon.

Neck, Head, and Spine pain for me has been real severe since my withdrawal. Its one of my worst symptoms.  I have been searching for something to help but have not found much success.  Advil helps temporarily but then has a backlash that makes things worse when it wears off.  Don't mess with Prednisone... that'll really sink you.  Anyway you are not alone.  It is benzo related for sure.

I have all of this too, balance, dizziness has definitely been my worst symptoms. Makes it hard to function day to day.

This has been a real hassle for me.  However, it has in fact improved quite a bit.  The one thing that seems to help me the most is doing stretching excercises.  This is particularly so in the mornings when things are at their worst point for me.  You might want to give it a shot.

best,
