Schedules for diazepam titration

I have been prescribed benzos (ativan, xanax, restoril, etc.) for a few years now.  This has been to help with generalized anxiety and neck tension.  I have reached the point where I'm tired of how addicting these are and asked my doc to switch me to diazepam because I've heard it is a useful benzo to quit others.  Currently I am on 5mg, three times daily and have asked my doctor to help with quitting and switching to buspar.

 

My doc advised me to drop dose 1/2 each week on diazepam and at the same time begin buspar 2 times daily to 3 times daily (at 3 weeks).  Essentially he believes that diazepam can be stopped in Three weeks, which has not proved to work.  Does anyone else have titration schedules to quit diazepam slowly and begin buspar?
