facial redness and heat off the charts - what on earth IS this?

OK. For the last couple weeks, I have noticed my facial redness is off the chart. Looks like I have a constant sunburn that just WON'T go away.

For the last several days, it feels like I have  a low-grade fever when I touch myself, like my skin is so warm. But I take my temp and it's always normal or just slightly elevated, (like 99 degrees).

Does anyone have anything to share they have learned on this? I have never had this kind of issue before in my life. It has to be benzo related, but sometimes I get worried I might have lupus or something else.

I'm having the same issue.  The only time I had this feeling before benzos, was when I drank a 5-hour energy and got a niacin flush.  Now, lately, my face, forearms and hands look very red and it feels, just like you said, it feels like I have a constant mild sunburn.  I've taken my teperature as well, sure that I had a fever, and I'm always surprised when it's normal.  Weird.

Interesting, roberr2222- When you said Niacin flush, that struck something in me. I wonder if this is something similar. Since it does seem to get worse when I eat certain foods, etc. I wonder if it has something to do with things I am ingesting with B vitamins.

I also still can't believe how sensitive I am to foods and supplements.

I'm very sensitive as well.  I tried taking a 500mg buffered vitamin c and it sent my anxiety soaring.  I just can't believe that!  The only supplement I'm taking right now that I can tolerate is a probiotic.

So, I just looked up Niacin Flush, and it turns out that it's actually a way for your body to rid itself of toxins and it's a healthy thing that means your body is healing. And I eat A LOT of almonds and pure raw almond butter, which are very high in Niacin.

Could this be what's going on with me?

rober2222- That's so funny because Vitamin C is the ONE thing I can tolerate without issues. I take 2 500mg a day for a total of 1000mg almost every single day. I find it makes me feel healthier if anything. Isn't interesting how different we all react to certain things? This is why the benzo recovery period is so different for so many of us. Our chemistries are all unique.

Bingo!  I've been eating a ton of natural almonds, too!  I've heard it helps rid the body of toxins, but I didn't know about the niacin.  Thanks!

Hmm, seems a little too easy if it's the almonds. But, it could be! I have a meeting with a naturopathic doctor next week and maybe she can help me dig to the bottom of this.

  • 2 weeks later...

wylidas,

Did you ever see your naturopathic doctor about this?  I'm curious if you learned something.

Thanks!
