Taurine?

[ji...]

I read up on GABA supplimentation and came across some controversy as to whether they even cros the brain blood barrier. I purchased taurine as it is the precurser amino acid. I took a double dose last night and I swear I feel better today. Could be psycosematic. Anyone have any experience using taurine supplimentation? My mood is so different today :yippee:

Taurine (500mg capsules) has been an absolute GOD SEND for me (at 31 months off)!!!   I tried something called Sun-Theanine (or L Theanine???) way way back in acute w/d when I had more DR and it was honestly NOT GOOD.  That was supposed to be "relaxing" too, however for me it just put me into more "Lala" land & just added to all the trauma.

I've read that for ppl who had previous diagnosis of GAD & Depression that there was a big problem with enough GABA in their brains in the first place (hence any over-active or "overly anxious" brain/emotions.  I've heard others say that GABA supps dont even work during post w/d anyway, and I cant buy it here, so never tried.

However this far out now, even though I was scared & skeptical to try anything, after much research - Taurine has been an absolute life-saver for me!!! It worked within 30 minutes for me and was AWESOME (still is).  I feel so much more relaxed both mentally, emotionally & physically.  Obviously I still have problems, but man, I dont want to be without this stuff EVER now!!! Its really helped to soothe my traumatized emotions.  Hope that testimony is of help to somebody!!!  :smitten::thumbsup: P.S. Apparently you need to take it in combo with B6 as well (which I am).

I found the below link tonight too (after already being on Taurine) and it explains things nice & simply for us not-so scientifically minded or gifted ppl :D

If you are skeptical about taking Taurine caps (2-aminoethanesulfonic acid) you can also just eat 14 ozs. of Salmon, Tuna or lean beef per day too (I think that would make you a carnivore :))  Taurine capsules do make me feel better but I have to take 4000 mg per day to get any real noticeable effect from the capsules and they are mild feel good effects (not a miracle substance by any means). Some people have reported that they stabilize faster after cuts when taking it.  Taurine is found in abundance in meat so it may be a very important supplement for Vegetarians tapering!!

NOTE: Tauine may help a taper along but will not replace it.

Just wanted to add that it was only x1 500mg tablet per day that has helped me.  The effects seem to last ALL DAY!!!  It doesnt seem to "wear off" for me either,  which is just brilliant.  For anyone interested the brand I use is "Solgar".

Yeah theanine makes my symptoms worse aswell. I haven't tried taurine yet.

Someimes I drink taurine in the form of monster energy drinks and it seems to give me an extra "boost".  Never tried it by itself, though except in food.  Never had any bad effects from taurine.

Huh ok, well INTERESTING to note I wasnt the only one that found Sun-Theanine or L-Theanine not cool!!!  Maybe this Taurine works on different receptors or something??? At any rate it is VERY CALMING emotionally (even tho I still got the consequent unresolved Trauma issues from this going on underneath).  I STILL have the ruddy awful mental stuff though, AND pretty horrific DP/bluntedness but I KNOW that is from the consequent damage & trauma this puts ppl through....CANT WAIT til THAT all ends & I finally get ME, my brain, iq and personality back!!!  :tickedoff:

Good luck to ya - if you decide to try the Taurine!!!
