[St...]
Hi I have a chest cold really starting strong today - last week head cold so it must have gone south. Not sick enough for a dr - but then would have to be feeling close to death to go there - haha. Am feeling like breathing kinda like filtered, hoarse cough at times, no temperature - so no infection, no coughing anything up. Want to keep it at this level. I am wondering if anyone has had luck with taking Zinc products - like Zicam lozenges or Cold - Eeze another zinc lozenge. Neither product has other ingredients other than zinc in them. Would appreciate any input on Zinc or other cold fighting success stories you have. I haven't been on an antibiotic in years and don't want this to go there. Not sure what cough syrup would be safe to fight this with either. Would appreciate my BBs opinions, have Zinc products sitting beside me but not touching them till I hear from my Buddies. Good luck...btw when I have a cold I drink the theraflu..love that stuff...always makes me feel better when Im sick.

Sally Stillbelieving Don't be too afraid to go to the doctor. Things like that can turn into pneumonia if you let it get too bad. I know one person in the hospital with double pneumonia (right now) because they left a chest cold untreated. Always be prepared in case you have to go, though. Know what kind of antibiotics are better known to be benzo friendly. I have heard of a lot of people taking amoxicillin in withdrawal with no trouble. I had a bad abscess that went to my bloodstream and I had to take Bactrim, which gave me some harsh side effects like depression, chills, sweats, and nausea but it didnt increase benzo withdrawal. It was much better than taking the risk of staph infection taking over my body. I hope it gets better for you soon. P.S. Hot showers, and breathing the steam always helped my chest colds. If it is a respiratory infection, you might try some Mucinex, as it works great. I ve never heard of anyone having a bad reaction to that, as long as its not the kind with ephedrine, or dextromethorphan (DM).
[ji...]
My husband has had luck with the zinc products when he feels something coming on and swears it shortens his sick time. If you feel light headed or it feels like it's not getting better please see a Dr. like others have said. My mother waited too long and was in the hospital for 6 weeks with chest tubes ( non smoker too ) with bacterial Pneumonia. Hope you feel better
