Losing Klonopin insurance coverage...now what?

Hello, I've been taking 2mg Klonopin a day for seizures. Due to spouses retirement I must find alternative med coverage.  The best coverage I found does not cover Klonopin, but covers all my other meds very nicely. What should I change to, and how do I change safely?

Hi Rusty, welcome to BenzoBuddies

I heard this was something that insurance companies were going to do, to stop providing coverage for some benzos. Some other longer lasting benzos like klonopin are Valium, Librium, Temazepam.. you might want to ask your insurance company what they will cover. Ativan ia another popular benzo but it doesn't last as long as klonopin, so you'll have to compensate for that. It's best to ask your doctor, he might have some other options for you.

Welcome aboard,

Are they stopping coverage for the generic version as well? (clonazepam)  Hopefully they still cover something approved for anxiety.  Also, you could consider just paying for the generic out of pocket.  It isn't terribly expensive.  When I was on Ativan, it was nearly $100/month.  When I changed to the generic version, the cost was around $10!
