Weird Appetite Changes

Greetings,

 

I was wondering if anyone has experienced appetite issues like mine with Klonopin (or any other benzo)?  What I have noticed is that Klonopin has caused me to lose a lot of weight.  However, when I first take a dose I have an increase in appetite about 10-20 minutes later.

 

Has anyone experienced such paradoxical effects with benzos (in regards to your appetite)?  It just seems strange that shortly after I take a dose I get hungry, but hours later my appetite decreases (basically for most of the day).  Weird ...

Hello Fishingguy

 

I have experienced a lower appetite ever since I jumped from ativan. I believe that all the benzos will take the appetite away (If I'm not mistaken). Although, some people do report they have somewhat of an increased hunger.  My stomach simply can't handle as much. I probably eat a little more then half of what I would normally eat daily before benzos.  I do remember that I have an increase an appetite whenever I took the benzos.

Thanks, Sam.  That sounds very similar to what has happened to me.  Also, my appetite usually increases whenever I make a cut.

Hi Fg,

I sure can relate to this . When i first did my cross way back when in 01/2010 I lost 20 lbs thank goodness I had the extra to lose. Then as quick as the weight came off I gained back 50lbs . This was so frustrating for me but I just couldn't curb my eating. In June 2011 I weighed a whopping 200lbs which is a lot for my 5'9" height. Anyway I began a exercise program and started to eat clean and am now back down to 150lbs. I still get urges to eat a lot and do but with the exercise and new diet I have maintained my weight. I think benzos mess up our metabolism .

I think you're right.  I have also read where benzos can not only cause a person to gain weight, but for some it can cause anorexia.  Some people thought I had anorexia because of how Klonopin caused weight loss in me.  Weird ...

 

Klonopin has also slowed down my digestion, I have noticed.  I don't understand how or why, but I have definitely noticed this.

It definately causes our digestive system to go haywire. i lost all my appetite when I crossed and one day at work i use to work in retail I was leaning over to grab a product for a customer and my pants fell down lol. I was freaked out at the time but can laugh about it now. Then before I knew it I couldn't fit in those same pants i really craved carbs . I look at pictures and am in disbelief . My family asked me if i had a eating disorder. When I tell them no it's benzo withdrawal they just look at me like i am crazy.

I know what you mean about pants falling down.  I had to make sure my belt was extra tight to keep mine up.
