Anyone take Remeron when tapering with Valium.

Hi.

I am at 2.06 mg of Valium and hit a wall at 2.05 mg - believe it or not I am dropping at 0.0025 mg per day and currently at 2.0525 mg and still could not sleep once I drop.

I see my psychiatrist yesterday and he prescribed with 15 mg of Remeron.  He think I have developed a physicology effect on that I must have the Valium to sleep as 2 mg is low - honestly I doubt it.

So I ask, anyone has been prescribed with Remeron and does it help. I am thinking if I could leverage the Remeron to mask out the problem - at least to taper off even lower.

I am thinking if I have developed a tolerance of Valium and that is why I am so hard to move.

Regards

There is a buddy here who I believe was prescribed a lower dose of remeron and helped him sleep.  I think he also benefited from melatonin.  He goes by Pangelingua.  Maybe you won't need 15mg remeron to sleep, possibly get by on half that dose.  Check with your doctor.  Also, be aware that remeron can lead to weight gain and increase appetite.

I wasn't on it during Valium, but I was during Klonopin. It made me very hungry; I would eat alot of carbs on it. My dose was 15mg before bedtime. I didn't take it too long, and only took it for sleep.

I took 15mg every other day for about 2 weeks and it helped me a lot. Not only did it help me sleep but it masked the other w/d symptoms as well. I did have to wean off of it and did experience some light w/d although I thought it was well worth it due to the benefits. Eventually I took it only about 1-2 times per week for a couple of weeks but had to stop taking due to w/d as the drug wore off (about 2 days later). I would get dental pain and increase panic attacks. I also gained about 5 lbs because I ate everything in sight.

Hi

I am the buddy that Vertigo mentioned and he gave me a heads up about this post. :)

I have been on low doses of remeron for 5 1/2 years now. It was the only A/D that I could tolerate and I have benefited from in that it has helped with sleep issues.

Initially, I was prescribed this after I developed a tolerance to the sleep effects of klonopin before bedtime.

If this is an A/D you can tolerate (and are having sleep issues) then I would highly recommend it. Yes, it can cause weight gain, but this is mitigated by the fact that my wife prepares lots of healthy meals with high fiber and less sugar.

One thing I would highly advise to you is that once you start on it, as soon as your valium taper ends, don't attempt a taper from the remeron right away. Wait several months until you feel stabilized, or, at least your life situation has settled.

Hope this helps. Any further advise or questions and I would be happy to help you! :)

I used Remeron 15mg starting one week post jump for sleep. It got me thru the worst of all acute w/d.  I'm now 4 months post and taking 7.5 to sleep - and it is stil helping to lift me through the symptoms.  When I turn a corner, I plan to taper it even more. As long as I go slow with tapering, I really can't tell (so far) of any withdrawal from it. I wouldn't want to go too quickly because any psychotropic drug is acting on the brain and to go slow allows the brain to adjust - but it hasn't been a tough one to taper. I've been on and off of it several times in the 4 months.

Hope this helps.

I don't know what has happened to me.

I think I have developed tolerance while I am holding at 2.06 mg when I first hit the wall at 2.05. I was holding 2.06 for > 21 days; I can see a change - I used to be able to sleep for 3 hours (very constant); wake up, take some milk; sleep again for 2 hours to 3 hours - even though it is likely not a proper sleeping. But after the holding; suddenly, after the wake up, I could not sleep any longer. Now it is getting worse, I could not sleep at all.

Do anyone experience similar? What do you do? I kinds of want to c/t as there is not difference anymore but I am scared of it.

Regards

You may simply be getting to that point where the valium has falled to a low enough dose in your body that you are no longer receiving as much sedating benefit and the sleep is getting difficult without it. The good news is that this means you're getting lower on the dose and you're not far from being benzo free.  You asked about the Remeron - have you tried it yet?  Now might be a good time to give a small amount of Remeron a try and see if it helps with sleep as the valium continues to fall out at this dose.  Try the littlest bit possible so that as time goes on, and as your valium continues to clear and you're cutting the dose, you can use a little more Remeron as you need it. Remeron builds up in your system, too - so if you try a little bit tonight and it doesn't work as well as you'd like, then trying the same amount tomorrow night might work for you by that point. I'm hoping you have success with it. It's helped a lot of us.
