SCRATCH AND ITCHY FEELING

[Ga...]

Recommended Posts

Does anyone feel intensly itchy? I do I keep scratching so much. It really is making me miserable:(

The hair just touching the top of my shoulders drove me nuts I have to wear it on the side in a ponytail.

Its like I have sensitive skin now. Its like my nerves. A hot bath with bath oil helped a little the other night.

Im just wondering if someoneelse has this itch problem?

I feel like Ive been bitten by mosquitoe bites, but I haven't.

All the time Gardenia. It's usually my temples my legs and the backs of my forearms. When it gets really bad it can be just about anywhere. It feels like I'm having an allergy attack. Actually, I'm going to the allergist this coming Thursday just to rule that out.

Hi Scratchies,

I have something this.  My chest and stomach were the first places to itch.  My doc said it was eczema but who knows.  It was accompanied with what looked like a rash, except it was flat - just red discoloration under the skin.  Then it spread to my thighs.  I bought Bye Bye Dry Moisturizing Care Cream by Babyganics.  It's basically a REALLY gentle moisturizer (for babies like me!) with NO parabins, sulfates, toxins, phthatlates.  It's also free of cortisone and steroids, something I think we should avoid in w/d.  The good news is it actually seemed to work for prevention when I feel well enough and remember to use it regularly, bad news is it comes in a small tube.  But when I do get the maddening itching, I use Benedryl Anti-itch gel for Kids.  It is immediately cooling.  It works better than anything I have tried.  Good for insect bites too.

Now my arms and sometimes hands and feet itch.  It just happens out of nowhere.  I'm not sure if it is caused by anxiety.  Sometimes showering or my clothes makes me itch.  Sometimes I think it's a temperature thing, like if I get too hot.  I've actually seen little pink bumps a couple times like flea bites after showering except nobody here has fleas.  Except me, I guess!

Sending soothing thoughts your way!    8)

Oh, I'm so sorry!  :therethere:  Some people use Biofreeze for nerve issues on the skin - it is kind of numbing, while the Benedryl is more cooling (in case anyone else is interested).  But if you think it's coming from inside and the Vistaril isnt helping...I don't know.  I have just upped my dose of Inositol (again!) and that has really been helping control the anxiety.

Hope you can find someone who better understands this symptom and can help you!!  Hang in there girl!

p.s. the burning sucks

Gardenia...Vistaril can cause bad itchiness as a side effect, even though that is one of the things that it is prescribed for. I was taking Diphenhydramine for sleep for a couple of months and was told that it has many of the same side effects as benzos, so I stopped. I was itching even worse for a number of weeks, but actually, if I think about it, it has really diminished in the last week or so.

Vistaril (Hydroxyzine) and Diphenhydramine are both first generation antihistamines, and have a lot of the same side effects.

That's what it is indicated for paresthesia, but in my case I took it for too long for sleeping. It's like anything else, benzos included, sometimes these things actually can cause the symptoms that they are supposed to relieve.

After using benadryl every few days for a couple of months it started to stimulate me and make me itch instead of sedating me.

gardenia, I too have had the "itchy" skin since the beginning of my w/d. It almost feels like ants crawling all over my body with one biting me occasionally. As soon as I scratch the "bite" a little pin sized scab forms. In the first couple of weeks of this horrible nightmare I had to take a hot shower every hour to get five minutes of relief. My hands and feet go numb too. Sometimes my fingers go numb only two or three at a time, really weird. The good news is it is not nearly as intense as the beginning. My doctor told me it is my nerve endings. It is really strange that nerves can actually burn pin sized holes in the skin. hope you feel better soon, rstud

Okay Gardenia...That was what happened to me and hopefully it can be of benefit to you.

Vistaril is the same type of antihistamine as diphenhydramine but much stronger. Where I live it's only available by prescription whereas diphenhydramine is over the counter.

I'm seeing a psych who specializes in benzo withdrawal and when I told her that I was taking the diphenhydramine she was adamant that I stop. She said that she was always of the opinion that those types of antihistamines were very nasty and should come with very big warning labels.

If I scratch it my nails seem so hard.

sunnygirl, I may get some of the Biofreeze, hubby has Neurapathy so we could both use it ::)

It use to really calm me and now it speeds me up. I'm very sensitive now so I'm just trying to stop everything. I've kept a log for 4 months now and I can see how different things have affected me. The one that really caught me was exercise. I would get a window so I'd try to boost it along by playing tennis or running on my treadmill and I'd get a huge wave the next day. Seems that your best just to take it easy and let nature take its course.

paresthesia. The second generation antihistamines aren't usually sedating so people don't tend to overuse them like the first generation types.
