I have been lurking here for about a week, just getting to know what this support forum is all about. Now I am ready to join as I will start my "journey" tonight.  I was put on a low dose of Xanex by my doctor a little over a year ago for some situational anxiety and to sleep.  I found myself dependant a few months ago.  I went back to my doctor and told him I wanted to get off and he gave me a 3 week taper schedule which threw me into acute withdrawl.  I reinstated with Clonazepam and found myself a psychiatrist who seemed to know about addiction and suggested I make a 5 week long switch to Valium and from there start a slow taper, I believe she got the schedule from the Ashton Manual.  So, I start tonight and I am nervous!  I have read tooooo many horror stories and wish to find some positive support and some encouragement!  Bless you all!

I did a cross over from Klonopin to Valium, and it went smooth.

 

It sounds like your Psychiatrist is on board with planning your taper.

You will find plenty of support and help here.
