hey friends,

im sure it is a symptoms of withdrawal, but i was curious as to how many have experienced it at any point in their withdrawal. it sounds like a little crackle in my ear randomly. sometimes its very often. sort of like when your pour milk on rice crispy treats - but obviously not as many. sometimes i plug my ears and just listen to them because they are pretty weird.

A couple of nights ago, I was lying in bed, on my left ear, and it was thumping - not along with my heartbeat, but all on its own. Drumming, really. A very irregular drumming. Never heard that before, haven't heard it since. I think it was one of the lead-in symptoms to my latest wave, which was pretty rough today. The infamous 2-month wave. I'm in it now.

I've had it for over a year, and it occurs every time I swallow.  It started while I was on Ambien and got much worse when I completed my Lorazepam taper.  An ENT told me that is due to muscle tension in your jaw that causes ear drum spasms.

Hi,

Like Thundercats I had this problem too. Just before I eventually managed to fall asleep I used to get a pop-poppping sound in my ear. Totally random. Not realted to heartbeat or anything else I could figure. Even though I didn't know for sure I told myself it was withdrawal and it was. It disappearded eventually although a couple of weeks ago it'popped' up again. (sorry for the pun. I'm having one of my better days. So I don't give a damn.) I was able to just ignore this time. Hopefully it'll do the same for you. Tell it to take a walk and it will... eventually.

I've had this one for a while.  It's like trying to pop your ears in a plane. I'd like to say it's a common symptom but I don't think anything is common with withdrawal.

i have all kinds of problems with my ears these days, and I find that using a neti pot to do a sinus flush and also to do the eustachian tube flush detailed here

http://www.wikihow.com/Unclog-the-Inner-Ear-or-Eustachian-Tube

helps a lot. In fact, I've noticed that when I'm doing this on a regular basis, my overall high-pitched tinnitus tends to be better, and then gets worse again if I get out of the habit.

I've never actually spoken to a doctor about this; you might want to do that before you start blasting saline through your eustachian tubes, but I'm hard pressed to imagine any problems for using a neti pot in the normal way (or at least, I've never heard of any).
