Any reccomendations ?

Hi I am new to this board. I'm 54 yrs old and completely disabled from an auto accident. I have been taking Librium for 19 years. I am now taking 95 mg per day and I'm in tolerance withdrawl. I cannot tolerate Valium or any other medication. I'm really scared and feel horrible. Are there any reccomendations for any doctors in the Sacramento, CA area that are familiar with a slow tapering detox ? I am not physically mobile. I need to have someone manage me trying to stabilize on my medication. Does anyone have any reccomendation on whom I could contact ? The tolerance withdrawls are extremely uncomfortable and I'm scared. I am very med sensitive and cant tolerate other meds. I feel like Im trapped.

Thank you for your reply, Right now I'm going through tolerance withdrawl syndrome. I need to find a doctor in the sacramento,CA area that understands how to taper off librium very slowly without the use of other meds as I'm sensitive to other meds. I am feeling completely hopeless that I will never get off of this 95mg of Librium that i'm on. I've been up and down. i cant take anit depresants, valium or anything else. I'm in tears. Since I'm not mobile...I can't walk into any clinic to get treatment or support. I was just hoping that someone would know someone in the sacramento area of california that is very familiar with these type situations. Thank you so much for your help.

Hi VeryScared, welcome  :)

I just checked a benzo-wise doctor list we have but there aren't any listed in Sacramento, most are in the Bay area that are closest to you. I'm very sorry you're having a hard time with Librium, what does your doctor say about this?

Hello ...thank you for your response. My regular doctor doesn't understand benzos....I need a doctor that understands benzos. I got started on librium 18 yrs ago when they tried to do a 12 day detox off ativan. Since that was too quick another dr put me on librium as I can't tolerate any other meds. I was holding steady at 65mg for about 2 yrs ...then all of a sudden my body went into tolerance withdrawls. i really need a specialist to help me with this. There has got to be somebody in the sacramento area that is familiar with benzos. I'm so scared I actually had to take 5mg extra tonight since i feel so anxioius. There has just got to be a dr out in this area somewhere. If you are already in withdrawl syndrome and I haven't even started tapering yet how do you slowly taper off the Librium if I"m already in tolerance withdrawl. I really need somebody to help manage this who is a specialist. I feel hopeless that my life is completely over. Since I'm not mobile I can't go to a regular facility where everyone is ambulatory. This is such a long process....I feel so hopeless.

What you might try is your insurance company and see if they can help refer you. I had some luck with mine when I called them for help. They may even have a directory of referrals you can find on line.

You'll find a lot of support here, we understand how this feels. Maybe another buddy will chime in and be able to help you better. Hang in there.  :mybuddy:

Welcome to BB, my doctor was no help to me, it was the support of my husband and the forum that got me through.

In addition to my introduction post ....I also had another question for all you folks that are going through benzo struggles as I am. After 18 yrs of taking Librium ...when I develop tolerance withdrawl....if I stay on the same dosage and resist going up ...will the tolerance withdrawls gradually calm down or go away eventually ...or level out if i don't go up on the Librium ?  I should have posted this to my original post. Hope someone can  help with this question....i would really lilke to know.

Hello VerYScared,

Welcome to Benzobuddies.

In my experience with benzoz, you will permanently be in tolerance withdrawal unless you increase the dosage. Your brain very quickly adapts to the dosage and craves more to have the same effect. If you check my signature, you will see that I have been taking Nitrazepam for a very long time and was certainly in tolerance withdrawal for most of the time without realising it. Anyway that's my experience.

You will find so much support and help here VeryScared.

Debbie
