[wy...]
I actually survived it and fought through the panic!!!!!! :yippee: I had to go into the dentist for 2 cavity fillings, and during the consultation, I told my dentist: NO novocaine (as it has epinephrine), no sedation, nothing that could cause me to backslide. So he agreed to do a different local anesthetic numbing med without epi in it, but he reminded me I would need several shots into my gums to really "flood" the nerves around the two teeth being done so I wouldn't feel pain. I said bring on the shots, I just want no side effects to make me backslide on my benzo recovery. During the procedure, he realized one of the cavities was deeper than anticipated, and he asked me how I felt about using novocaine("just a little") to deaden it more. I held firm and said 'nope - bring on more shots' and he laughed and said 'ok.' I started to panic a little when I felt how numb my right side of my jaw and face were getting from the procedure, and it just made me feel as if I couldn't breathe or something, but I fought through it and breathed deep and reminded myself that I would be alright, and I have fought worse. (FYI, there was NO pain, since I was so numb. I was just panicky because it felt so foregin to me.) BOttom line: I made it! I needed this so badly, because it proved to me that while there are some things out of our control (my BP was 145/97 when they took prior to the procedure due to my nervous system being on high alert), we DO have some say in the matter. I will not let this get the best of me. I will NOT. I want to live again. And this proved to me that I just may again. I hope this provides some hope to anyone out there who needs it today. [wy...]
Good for you, Sweet G! Isn't it amazing when we can prove to ourselves that we CAN overcome the worst? It just proves to me that over time, with more and more procedures like this, I (and we) will once again realize the power we have. It really is limitless. It's exactly what we need to know within ourselves to overcome these odds.

[su...]
Wylidas, Congrats! You did it. I have to have a cavity filled at the end of the month...what is the deal with Novicaine/epinephrine? Does it interfere with GABA and healing or will it rev symptoms?
[Wi...]
Wylidas, Congrats! You did it. I have to have a cavity filled at the end of the month...what is the deal with Novicaine/epinephrine? Does it interfere with GABA and healing or will it rev symptoms? Epinephrine is a shot of adrenaline. Doesn't mess with Gaba but can do a real number on symptoms. [su...]
Okay, thanks! Geez, this post may have save me from quite a mess! I just checked the side effects and they are scary - especially given how prone we are in w/d to these kinds of things. Thanks, Wylidas. It never would've occurred to me otherwise. [Ti...]
What did he give you instead of Novacaine--so I can ask my dentist? I need a filling later this month too.
[su...]
Wy, Did you have to tell you doc you are in benzo w/d? You said that "they had to take your BP due to your nervous system being on high alert". My dentist hasn't ever taken my BP and I'm wondering what I need to tell them - THAT THEY WILL UNDERSTAND - to make things okay for me. Great Q, Tina. [Ti...]
Yes, I agree with your question too Sunny. I am very hesitant to tell anyone--including med. professional like a dentist, about my benzo dependency/withdrawal since it's so complicated, so misunderstood, and a great stigma attached with it unfortunately. Don't want to be labeled as a "neurotic head case." It's the drugs--not me!!!
[Tu...]
Well Done, it just shows what kind of a fighter and how determined to beat this you are! :thumbsup
[su...]
...it's so complicated, so misunderstood, and a great stigma attached with it unfortunately. Exactly!!! Get outta my head! Actually, it's probably good somebody is in there. I'm too worn out to explain it to one more person. I'm still trying to understand it myself... Here is the thread: http://www.benzobuddies.org/forum/index.php?topic=47457.msg658180#msg658180 I also asked if anyone has told their dentist about their benzo w/d...waiting on replies... Good luck!
