The nightmares continue......

The bad news is that over the past week or so I have been having more of the super intense dreams, some of them nightmares. The dreams are nothing new (started having them off and on several months ago) but lately I have been getting them almost every night.

The good news is that these dreams seem to strongly correlate with windows and "up" days. This time around they are directly tied to the good week I have been having.

When I first started having these crazy dreams it was accompanied by a weird sleep pattern where I was waking up in the morning a few hours before I normally get up and drifting in and out of what seemed like a light sleep until I finally got up. Nowadays the dreams are happening not only when I am having good days, but also with pretty solid sleep- probably the best I have had in years.

This has to be a sign of healing. The nightmares aren't much fun (last night I was jolted awake after a nightmare where I walked into "my" apartment realizing that someone had broken in) but as long as they are accompanied by good days I'm not complaining!

Hi FG,

I hear you about the nightmares.  I have been having some really good days lately too. But holy moley the nightmares have been wild, especially last night. I feel fortunate that I have always been a good sleeper, but these dreams have woken me up.  Like you, if I have had good days I guess a can handle the 3-D technicolor dreams.

Florida - when did you have those mornings where you woke up a few hours earlier and drifted in /out of light sleep? I'm having that EXACT thing now. I wake up at about 5 (not typical for me prior to benzos) - and while i'm not anxious, I feel SO sleepy but can't sleep anymore. Just sorta lay there and try to rest until I have to get up at 7. Just wondering what your time frame was on that phase...

Man those crazy dreams get ont my nerves... I've probably made about 5 threads on benzobuddies solely about dreams and how bizarre they can get. I can relate because I'm also having a good week and I've had pretty intense dreams/nightmares the last week. Last night was really bad actually.  This is just another stepping stone in your recovery, and I'm sure you're almost through with it all. Good Luck

I had a couple that scared the hell out of me. Like, not wanting to go back to sleep kind of scared.

I can't remember exactly but I would guess that started around 10 months off.

I've found that I have had more vivid dreams as I have been off for a while.  Not every night.  And they coincide with deeper sleep.

I assume that this means some changes are going on with sleep archetecture, and presumably for the better, as it is a reversal the brain from being on benzos.

Wow. Last night I had a crazy dream. I was on a small boat in what seemed like a tropical bay (large body of water but not ocean large). I remember looking at the water and thinking how beautiful it was. It was deep, crystal clear and azure blue. Then I saw pods of dolphins and tropical fish with ultra vivid colors coming to the surface. Yellows and greens that contrasted with the blue water. Took the boat to the shore and realized there were snakes all over the shore preventing me from getting off the boat. Heh. So much for the good dream!

Had another dream about being in a bar with some friends and realizing they left me there by myself. I am pretty sure this stems from feeling like my friends abandoned me during this wd ordeal.

Anyway, it seems like the dreams are starting to change for the better. Must be my brain catching up and trying to fix unresolved issues.
