Hi @[...], many thanks for the kind words and sharing your thoughts on the books we have both read!

I know by heart only the first verse of the wonderful love poem by Pushkin "I can recall that magic moment".

I can't wait to feel "my spirit resurrected" from the Benzo imprisonment.

Have a great afternoon!

К *** (Я помню чудное мгновенье)

  Я помню чудное мгновенье:
  Передо мной явилась ты,
  Как мимолетное виденье,
  Как гений чистой красоты.

-----------------------------------

I can recall that magic moment
When you first came into my sight
Like fleeting vision, like an omen
Of pure beauty and delight.

So often in my dark surrender,
In dreadful days of human race
I heard your voice so sweet and tender
And dreamed of your delightful grace.

As years passed by and storms got stronger
I lost my dreams to mundane race
I could not hear your voice no longer
I could not see your lovely face.

Imprisoned in my desperation
Dragged into misery and strife,
Without God and inspiration
Without tears, life and love.

And then, one day my soul awoken
And you came back into my sight,
Like fleeting image, like an omen
Of pure beauty and delight.

My heart beats fast with admiration,
With resurrected spirit of
Divinity and inspiration,
And life, and tears and always love.

Hi @[No...], many thanks for sharing your thoughts on "The Road" and the humorous book suggestion! I will check it out.

Have a great day!

I just found it free and will start reading it.

Maybe this is something similar:

F**k It: The Ultimate Spiritual Way

I saw this book 17 years ago but didn't get it, now I saw it in Internet and just decided to purchase it. Maybe because recently I often think: "F**k it." 😆

I've watched the movie in 2009 without knowing about the book. These days I downloaded the book on my reader, but I can't read serious books right now, so it will wait for better days.

I really like the original in Russian. It's a bit different in English but beautiful too.

I was recommended one particular book that was so gentle "The Sea For Breakfast" by Lillian Beckwtih.

@[Ra...], I have reserved this book through my public library system. I will need this type of book as I go further in my taper and eventually jump. Thanks for posting.

You're welcome and, if you like it, there are others writtten by her.  it's nice an old fashioned and comforting.

I’ve ordered a used copy off of Amazon! It sounds just right. Great suggestion.

Mark Manson "The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck"

After few pages about Charlles Bukowski I realized that I've already read this book few years ago.. This guy has and other books, some impressions?

Let me continue with Oscar Wilde. I like his aphorisms and they are so much!

Hi @[No...], Mark Manson has written another book in 2024 - Everything Is F*cked: A Book About Hope, but it seems that it's not as good as the first one. You can check the reviews here: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/43808723-everything-is-f-cked

Nelson DeMille (RIP), maybe my favourite author. I like all his books but especially "The gold coast" (there is sequel if somebody is interested).

Quote

Although the tone of his writing varies from novel to novel, one consistent tool is DeMille's liberal use of sarcasm and dry humor.

@[No...], I ordered The Gold Coast and The Gate House today from Amazon. Thanks for your recommendation. Nelson DeMille was a prolific writer. He certainly will be missed by his many readers around the world.

Yes, @[Es...], this book definitely is “terrifying at times.” I stormed through it to the end. In addition to being a thriller, this book is also thought provoking in terms of the adoption of foster children.

@[No...], while I’m waiting for The Gold Coast to arrive from Amazon, I picked up Plum Island. I love Nelson DeMille’s writing style and the first person narration by convalescing NYPD cop John Corey. I really like Corey’s sense of humor, no matter how difficult the situation is. His dry humor reminds me of your humor in spite of what you are going through. Thanks for introducing me to this author.

@[Ct...], the humor can save us :) I like John Corey, he is tough guy, I am not. But I am really smiling as you make relation between our humor! The Gold Coast is way different from Plum Island but I think you will like it too. Nelson DeMille know how to show the raw human nature, this is what I really like in his books.

@[...], I wish you to read books soon!

@[Ct...], meanwhile I found the last two Nelson DeMille's books totally free in epub format - "Blood Lines" and "The Maze" (#8 John Corey). This came in the right moment as I have some free days around holydays. I can share the site if someone is interested.

That makes me so happy, @[Ct...] I also hugely recommend Freida McFadden's "Never Lie". All her books are awesome, BTW. Freida is my absolute favorite.

For people who like scary ghost stories. I just finished "We Used to Live Here: A Novel" by Marcus Kliewer. It is creepy all right. I read it in three sittings. On Kindle. I think from 50% onwards, I was just glued to this book. Haven't read anything so scary in a long time.

The author creates a wonderful atmosphere: a very old and big house, totally isolated in the middle of the woods, the snowy British Columbia weather... A woman with too much imagination who just started living there and feels obliged to receive unknown guests: a strange family, wanting to visit the house, cause the father lived there as a kid...

Their visit turns into a longer stay, strange things start happening, the woman begins to question her sanity... Wow! It was one hell of a read. I greatly recommend to all the fans of the genre.

@[No...], I hope you will have time to read some of the last two Nelson DeMille books during the holidays. I like the fact that there is a series of John Corey books. I love following the main character and supporting characters from one book to the next. I read every Harry Bosch book that Michael Connelly wrote. I look forward to doing the same with the John Corey books.

Are there no Janeites out there?  I re-read all of Jane Austen's novels every year. Nothing like an evening of total escape with Persuasian or Pride and Prejudice!
