Has anyone tapered off of 1 mg of atavan after being on for 4 mts ?

Me. I’m in my taper right now!

went from 1mg to 0.75.  0.25mg 3x a day.  It was rough at first but it’s getting better and better. Please don’t hesitate to message me or reply for support.

Why did you dose 3 x a day ? Did you dose that way before you started ?  What was the hardest part ?

@[Ya...] I have been tapering from 3 mg Ativam.  I have been on Ativan for much longer...but perhaps I can answer some of your questions.

Hi @[Ya...], we practice anonymity here for safety but also because we discuss so many deeply personal issues.  Its important to ask for and receive taper advice on the open forums because sometimes advice is given that may not be helpful and when its done privately, there isn't anyone to call it out. But when its out in the open, others can see and offer a correction.

We have had and still have many members who are tapering Ativan.  Because of its short half life, most members will dose at least 3 times a day, as they get lower in dose, this becomes more important.

I'm sure we can help you, if you'll let us know what you need.  You've been on the medication long enough that a taper would be advisable, are you experiencing symptoms?

@[Pa...] just chiming in here, curious as you why it's more important to dose multiple times per day as you get lower in taper? I'm currently tapering ativan and only dosing once a day.

Hi @[Mt...], I shouldn't have made an absolute statement like that, there are exceptions, not everyone will experience interdose or the same degree of interdose withdrawal.  Keeping blood serum levels as constant as possible can help minimize a whiplash effect of symptoms, but eventually, all doses will be eliminated.  

I'm happy to hear you only have to dose once a day.

No worries. I was just curious to see if there was indeed a rule of thumb to split doses as one gets lower. It made sense as the effect of the dose would no longer be "therapeutic".

Hardest part was the first taper. Because I dropped quickly and so I had withdrawals.

Ativan is tough. Every teensie little change you make seems somehow magnified. But, proceeding "low and slow" really helps. I dosed four times a day for part of my taper, and that helped ease things along. It can be tedious measuring things out, preparing the dose four times a day, but it's worth it to make things a bit more comfortable for our poor little brains!

It has definitely been annoying dosing 3 times a day. When I first started my taper, I was cutting about 30 pills or more preparing for days ahead, and It stressed me out and aggravated me. Now, I just prepare my dose for the day in the morning, and it has helped so much more. I cut only 3 pills a day, sometimes more if I'm in a good mood, lol. I also noticed I pretty much know where to shave now and don't get so consumed by the weights on the scale. It gets better 💗
