1 year of Oxazepam

Greetings people.  I have been taking 5-10mg Oxazepam for just under a year after having a lung cancer diagnosis at 42 years old.  Luckily it was operable and was followed by chemotherapy to be sure, but that doesn't stop the night time fear of recurrence and what will become of my young children if things get worse.  I saw an addictologist to give up smoking and she kept me on Oxazepam and Oxycodone to get me through the hard times.  I'm off the oxycodone now and just finding out how bad benzos appear to be to come off.  The addictologist had said to me don't bother quitting, just stay on them for the rest of your life.  She has disappeared now.  Are there any reassuring stories out there?  Thanks in advance xx

Hi Throughthewoods,

Welcome to BenzoBuddies!

Be at peace, you found a good place here to share and get support and advice.

I am sorry to hear your troubles with lungs - very scarely.  God bless you and your family including the little ones you mention.

I am sad to hear your doc says "just stay on them for the rest of your life".  After reading the history of buddies here, you will come to understand why.  Also, to give you other information besides your doc (who has disappeared?), you can look at The Ashton Manual for an overview of Benzo withdrawal The Ashton Manual

You asked for reassuring success stories.  You will find a variety of them here Success Stories

You might want to start a thread with questions to help you plan your taper on Planning Your Withdrawal (Taper Plans)

If you've already begun tapering and need support, then post here  Withdrawal Support (during your taper)

It's helpful for other members if you put information in your signature (stuff like your benzo, dose, how long on it, and tapering status).  When you are ready to create a signature, on the forum page, click Profile, and then on the left side of the page (just below Modify Profile), click on Forum Profile.

Let me know if I can help you.

Wow, you are a survivor! And what strength you have to go through chemo, get off opiates, and now benzo's.I am very happy you survived,as I am sure your friends and family are. And yes, getting off of Benzo's is not easy, but we are all doing it. If you survived cancer, you are familiar with tolerating pain, fear, and practicing coping skills. These will help you .

Again, welcome to Benzo Buddies, you have come to a safe, confidential informative support group, and we are happy to have you as a member. As Bob said, please let him or anyone who is admin or moderator support you in any way we can.

Thanks ever so much for your kind replies!  I'm still trying to find my way around, I can't quite find this post when I'm looking for it to thank you for your replies.  I managed it in the end but not sure how I'd find it again.
