Hi all, I haven’t posted in forever. Just been trying to live life as normally as possible post taper. Last dose about 9 months ago. But I’ve experienced depression and I’ve tried everything and can’t shske it. I’m looking at the real possibility that I need to take an antidepressant. Are there any considered safer than others? I’m concerned about taking anything that could cause new symptoms or that I’ll have to taper off of but I also can’t keep going on in a depressed State. Thanks for any suggestions you might have or anything that’s worked well for you. My body is so sensitive I need a low dose of whatever I decide to take. .

I think the jury is out on this one. Everyone reacts to medications differently. I have seen some folks on here who say that they become agitated after starting an SSRI.

Remeron or mirtazapine Is another antidepressant you could consider ... some folks say that it saved their lives and others say that they had horrible experiences with it. I tried it myself for a couple of days ... it did immediately fix my sleep but I also noticed that I was suddenly eating everything in sight.

I do expect that any kind of medication that you would add on a regular basis would need to be tapered if you want to get off of it ....

I've been taking citalopram & sertraline was about 8 months off when started made things whole lot worse. Mine was for intrusive thoughts and anxiety made thing 10 times and worse and given me more symptoms. Don't know if it would work for depression. Had come off them and withdrawal pretty awful. But seem help some people.

Hi mountaintop1,

After helping my husband for so many years in the withdrawal hell, I can tell for sure that there is a lot of depression to be dealt with. I am even wondering how someone should not be depressed being in this situation.

Here is just my 2 cents, not a medical advice. Did you try first the normal ways to improve your mood as doing physical exercise, staying in the sun, and any activity you enjoy?

There are also supplements that improved our mood (my husband and I) as inositol and vit D3.

SSRIs are bringing a lot of additional risks and not even sure they are helping.

I have been left in a position where I cannot tolerate antidepressants anymore. They make me far too agitated and uncomfortable even at tiniest doses. Everyone is different, of course, but what I found to be helpful to me for depression is a combination of Ashwagandha supplement with Japanese green tea (Sencha tea basically, or Matcha, if you can afford it) and a combination of pumpkin seed oil, flaxseed oil and fish oil/cod liver oil. Somehow, it really helps.

Depends what you want, I can only speak from experience. Paxil is by far the strongest and most effective. This also means it's very difficult to get on and a nightmare to attempt coming off. I'm serious, if you try to come off of it without professional help, it will destroy your life. I had good experiences with lexapro, it's easy to start and coming off of it isn't too difficult. Problem is the maximum is only like 20mg (10mg is the regular dose) and for a lot of people, it doesn't work long.
