This Is Just So Hard

Hi. I have been trying to get off Klonopin for a few months now. I weaned off antidepressants in the past, not that long ago (after a taper). I tried to taper myself from Kpin, but it isn't going well. I have crushing depression; it's hard to sort out how much of this is still AD withdrawal. Right now I've been trying to drop from daily .5 Klonopin to .375 but it's not working so well.

Everything feels so unreal and nightmarish, like I'll never get myself back. I am exhausted from this. I want to find a doc who can maybe help me switch to Valium and start the Ashton Method, but even so, it's not like that journey is going to be easy, and I need to develop some coping for the long haul.

I usually consider myself a good writer; right now I'm having a hard time finding the words to describe how I feel. Just... Sick... Confused... Tired... More later.

Hello delsol,

Welcome to Benzo Buddies! Yes, tapering off benzos can be challenging, but not impossible. I'm glad you've joined the forum because you'll find a lot of good information here as well as support from those who understand the process.

I know the feeling of wondering where the 'real me' was, the good thing is that the real me came back once off benzos and healed.

How long have you been off antidpressants?

Klonopin is a very strong benzos. Some people can taper directly from this drug, others can not. I did cross over to Valium and tapered from that.  There are also alternatives for a very slow taper, called titration.  A low taper is important to help the body adjust to the dose changes. Normally, a reduction of no more than 5-10% every 10-14 days is suggested. I'll give you a link to the Planning your Withdrawal Board for more information.

While not easy, the journey can be tolerable with a sensible taper plan.  Settle in and do so reading. Be sure to ask questions, we're here to help.

I dont know if this helps, but it helped me to read that. I feel exactly the same way.

I think we will be ok <3

Welcome from me as well, delsol.

Glad you’re here for support and information. Just a quick caveat...Diazepam is found by most people to be depressing and sedating...if you’re already depressed it may not be the best choice for you.

Take care,

Challis

Good to know about diazepam. I find the Klonopin to be incredibly depression-inducing, hence my strong desire to get off of it. At first it was not that way, but it became that way.
