Holiday - OK to Take a Break?

Recommended Posts

Hi

I'm going on holiday to Scotland with my teenage daughters. We live in Thailand.

I've done a relative fast taper 20-7.5mg Diaz. since Nov.

Feeling OK apart from the odd day, usually day 3 after cut, but bearable.

I would love to keep the momentum going but also need a holiday(I work 7 days a week). I have a few stressful things going on back there, death of a friend, old mother, and some business.

Some older relatives, I'll be seeing for the last time probably(in their 80s/90s) and I'd hate to be feeling withdrawal or looking bad then.

Do you think a tapering stop for 1 month would be detrimental? Would you recommend to keep cutting?

Thanks

Jim

Hi Jim,

You are doing a great job! If it were me, I would do a hold for the holiday. Holding is a great way to get stabilized! I usually held for a month or longer after each cut even when I was not on holiday. I hope you are able to enjoy yourself!

I concur that holding would be wise. Travel is a marathon these days as is, no need to add to it. Your taper has been pretty quick up til now.  You might continue OK, or you might hit that "3-2-1mg" roadblock most experience. Remember Valium has got a long half-life; true effects can hit much later on.

I will add this caveat: I wouldn't indulge in alcohol as this can precipitate withdrawal.  You think, "what's the harm ...it's only a pint," but if it blows up, you'll be in a world of difficulty while traveling.  Up to you.
