Anyone else can't eat during benzo withdrawal?

Hi,

I am finding it really REALLY hard to eat.  My stomach is in knots most of the time (anxiety).  But the thought of food makes me want to vomit sometimes.  Is this unusual?

Thanks.

Not at all, it is really pretty common.  I know a lot of people on here that lost weight ( especially in the beginning, including myself) but as things progresses , gained it back.  Now I wish I could loose a few pounds.  ;).  Mary 💜  If you want to read more about it, you can go to the Homepage under your avatar to the search engine and type in nausea.  :)

That's what happened to me too Letty, a lot of stomach pain and tests.  Didn't find anything.  My husband just accidentally stumbled across an article on benzo's and stomac pain.  Then we knew.

That's when I lost weight.  Glad to have you on bb, lots of good information and people here.  If we can help, we are right here.  Mary 💜

No doctors ever warned me. Still haven't it's like they're clueless. I'm just finding out myself through here and other symptoms when i thought i was really sick since November n the doctor never said to himself maybe it's this. So glad we can help each other here.❤

This place has saved me.  It's not always going to be easy, but there are always people here who care and who understand.  It took me about 6 months to find bb and I was in pretty rough place.  Thank goodness I did  ;). My doctors never mentioned the Xanax I was on,  I even stuck my med list in my gastro's face,  Xanax at top!  He said " no, none of those listed should be causing you problems."

That cost me 6 more months of taking benzo's without realizing what it was causing  :(

I found out through a cardiologist who put me on beta blockers cuz of palpitations. Just found out 2 days ago that this is withdrawal n i found this forum. Been on lorazepam for 12 years with no clue of what it was.

Letty, as you read around bb, you will see that story over and over, except most of us discover it on our own, not a Dr.

Have you talked to anyone about tapering or what you want to do?  The 2 best things , imo, whatever type of tapering you choose, start at a low dose and go slow, if you do well, you can always speed the taper up.  Going too fast in the beginning is what has caused most of our problems.  Have you read The Ashton Manual (on google) lots of information, but even her taper schedule is a little fast for a lot of us.  But a very good read on benzo withdrawal.  ;)

Just having an awful day. I will Google it. Just to see what i can learn from it. It's been a horrible emotional day for me today. Also physically. I miss foods family n friends..at least here i don't feel so alone knowing we're all the same somehow.

We understand Letty.  We have all felt the same way.  But if you want to ask questions, please do.  It can be very lonely going through withdrawal and just so you know, it does slow down on bb on the weekend, so if it takes awhile for a response, it's not personal at all.  People are just busier or feeling bad.  We are all the same, if I can help, let me know.  LY, Mary 💜☮️🙏

I'm right there with you friend, I'm on day 13 and the only thing I could get down today was a protein drink. Off the chart anxiety and stomach trouble. this has been my worst day so far, one day closer to over it right?

Hi Letty and WeTrudgeOn,

Things do improve.  Be patient.  Accept the emotional waves.  Breathe.  And I try to be ok with not being ok.

Eating is getting better for me.  So, it has improved since Dec. 18 when I tapered to half my dose 3 x 0.25mg from 3 x 0.5 mg.  Almost 3 months ago.  I didn't know what I was doing but have carried on until things settle.  My next decrease will be 5% of my current dose, to 0.24mg,  on one of my doses.  This is scheduled for Friday.

I also slept until around 5am this morning.

So today has been a better experience.  And I will keep soldiering on.

My eating is getting worse n i don't know why. Everything reacts bad to me. Migraines that last for hours. I don't know what to eat anymore. I'm tired of trying something different but still no luck. Any suggestions on this please..

The bad appetite and nausea is not good. If you are concerned about weight loss, consider a low dose of Remeron, 7.5mgs to 15 at night will help sleep and appetite

What is Remeron?

Its a tetracyclic antidepressant, but at very low doses, a potent sleep inducer and appetite stimulant. Many threads about it here

I barely ate for month. I lost 40 pounds in the first three months. I usually was sick all day long. Things are better now and I have put on some weight but I didnt eat much for a year. I drank a lot of water, vegetables, sweet potatoes...just mainly bland whole foods...wild rice stuff like that. Appetite is better now but I am still on a good diet.

I've had periods where I had no appetite and had to force myself to eat minimum amounts of food and it seemed that I would get filled with 25% of the amount of food that I normally eat.  I actually had to buy several pairs of pants that were 2 sizes smaller.  Then things changed around and I had a huge appetite and gained back the weight I had lost and then some and wound up having to buy pants that were 2 sizes larger.  Some people have their wardrobe in their closet arranged around seasons.  I have mine arranged around tapering.
