I’m 9 months off and one of my symptoms is complete luck of appetite and when I force myself to eat I dry hives, it’s like my body is refusing food that gives me so much anxiety because I’m underweight and everyone talks about how important healthy diet is.

Looking for support anyone who experienced this issues please share some hope

Santosa,

Please add a signature to your profile so that everyone can see your history. You’ll get more replies that way.

I never had this symptom and it bothers me that you can’t eat. I’d get down to the doctor for some tests and that’s not normally my first thought.

Good luck,

Hi Santosa,

I agree, you might want to have some tests done, but if they come back normal, then I guess we can chalk it up to withdrawal since you are still fairly early in your recovery.  I sure hope you can find foods you can get into you, yes, it's good to eat healthy, but any food you can eat will do.

Here are the instructions for putting your medication history into your signature.  Add your history/signature

This has happened to me on and off.  The first time I went through benzo withdrawal I lost 20 pounds.  Now I go back and forth.  A month ago I could only eat triscuits and cheese.  Try to get enough protein, if you can tolerate milk, yogurt, cheese, a hard boiled egg, stuff like that it is good.  Ice cream, frozen yogurt.  Progresso chicken soup, it has a lot of protein.  Try to eat at least some fruit so you don't get constipated. There were times when I had to practically force myself to eat at least something.  My appetite is back now for the most part.

Because my exercise is limited because of benzo symptoms, now I try to use my calories for nutritious food only and limit junk food so I don't gain Too much.  Good luck!

I think we have a hard time eating because we know it will bring on uncomfortable side effects which usually causes a lot of anxiety. Now, my diet is mainly coke & crackers.  On a good day, I will be brave, & try something more substantial, but it usually brings on numerous digestive issues. (Burping, stomach gurgling, & gassiness).  Then the anxiety sets in.

I had poor appetite too, in the first 2 weeks post jump and during my taper. It's hard to say whether mine was an actual benzo withdrawal symptoms or a consequence of WD (anxiety, depression and poor sleep can lead to poor appetite as they can lead to increased appetite in some people). Like Marja, I always forced myself to eat  and eat healthy & balanced in particular. Easier said than done, I know...

Yes I had this during withdrawal and I lost a lot of weight. Eventually my appetite and weight returned. In the meantime, please try to drink protein shakes and take vitamin supplements. Your body needs nutrients in order to heal.

When I first got off, I couldn't eat either.  Buy some of that dry protein drink mix with vitamins in it at the health food store and mix it will milk and drink that.  That's what I did.  At least you'll get some nourishment.  I didn't puke that up.
