I was on 1-3mg klonopin for 14-15 years. I tapered off within a month about 2 months ago (mid December). I’ve taken .25mg about 3 times since, the last time was a week ago today during some anxiety the day after having a glass of wine. I have been in a state of fear with a pounding heart, pit in my stomach, and diarrhea ever since. I don’t know what to do. I am still on 100mg of trazodone at night. I have also been taking propranolol since I started tapering the klonopin which I’ve tapered from 20mg to 10 since that prescription is almost out. By the grace of God I somehow manage to get a few hours of sleep each night but every waking hour feels like torture. I’m currently supplementing with amino acids, Passion flower, choline, and inositol with tryptophan and theanine at night.  Help.

Hello EagleFan,

Welcome to Benzo Buddies! That was a very fast taper, from a potent benzo. It's not surprising that you are feeling some strong symptoms.  Additionally, alcohol targets the same receptors in the brain as benzos, so many people find that it causes an increase in withdrawal symptoms. A lot of people abstain from alcohol for many months after stopping benzos.

It looks like you are taking some 'rescue doses'.  This happens but you've done this a few times.  The issue is that taking these doses can lead back into dependency, it's a slippery slope to be on.

Since your taper was quite fast, you will feel withdrawal for a while. It takes time for the nervous system to recover. Normally a slower taper is recommended to help the body adjust better to the dose changes.

I know it's rough now, but if you can hold on without taking additional klonopin your system can start to recover. How long this takes varies per individual.  You will find mixed reviews of supplements here, for some people they help, for others, they can cause more problems.

I'll give you a link to the Post Withdrawal Recovery Board where you can post and receive feedback from members. You'll find others who are experiencing the same withdrawal symptoms, it does help to know you are not alone.  OK may take a while to come, but you are off the drug and with time things will improve.  Settle in and do some reading, let us know how we can help.

Welcome to BB EagleFan. I am curious about something. Why did you taper so fast? Were you forced to by some doctor or did you do this on your own? I personally do not think the supplements will help much. In some cases, they can hinder progress IMO.
